TWGS doesn't need a BBS, you can just run it and then use a Telnet application like PUTTY to Telnet to it to play the game.

TW2002 V3.09 is a BBS DOS based door, you can play it locally without a BBS if you want to. For a BBS, I used to reconmend WWIV, but they have gotten too pricey over the years without as many features as the other BBSes. So I now reconmend Synchronet BBS at http://www.synchro.net/ which is Free, and is like WWIV, but has many more features that WWIV doesn't have. Like built in Telnet clients, Mail clients, etc. They also have ports to 32 bit Windows and Linux that WWIV is only now working on.

I hope this helps.

You just need to purchase TWGS. Once you download it and get reg keys for it, there are instructions bundled with it for getting it all set up.

Pretty much install the software, create a game, set the port you want the server to run on, then start the server. People can telnet to your IP at the port you specify (23 is default) and play the game. If you run into a specific problem when trying to get it set up, post here and we'll try to resolve it.

It isn't that hard to do.

Just install it first, and then look at the configuration. If you have a static IP, go to http://www.whatsmyipaddress.com/ to get it, otherwise if you have a Dynamic IP you might need to go to http://www.dyndns.org/ or some other place and get a subdomain and then download a client to update your IP to the subdomain every 5 minutes or so.

Once you have your IP or subdomain, you need to configure your server. Run TWGS, and then hit the "Stop Server" button. Now select the "Server" menu and choose the "Configure" option. Click on the Server tab of the Configure form, and then Choose the game port. It defaults to 23, but if you have a BBS or something using 23, use 2002 instead. Set the Admin password, unless you want other people messing up the game.

Now click on the Game tab. You can add and delete games here. Let's create Game A, shall we? Click on the "New" button. It will make "Game 1" you can change the description of it here. It should default to "A" for the first game.

Now click on the Registration tab and enter your registration codes you got.

Now hit the "OK" button to save your changes.

Now go to the "Tools" menu and select "Command Center" you will need to run BigBang to start up the Universe. Click on BigBang. Choose "Start with default data files" since it is your first game. Hit Ok. If it asks you if you registered, hit Yes and enter your codes in case you didn't enter them before. You can change the default values here if you want, etc. Hit "Z" and then Enter to start up the Bigbang. Ok, you are almost done. Now click on the Editors button and go to TEDIT. Hit "G", it should show your registration info here. You can change the turns per day here, etc. You can set other setting with "H" and "I" but I won't confuse you with those settings yet. Hit "Q" to exit and save your changes. Options "1", "2", and "3" are Gold options which you can explore later.

Now go back to the Command Center and close out.

Go back to the TWGS program and click on "Start Server" and then go to the Forums here and Announcements/BigBangs and post your IP and/or Subdomain and port number and wait for players to enter.

Go to http://www.tw-attac.com/ to download a Telnet client and enter your IP or Subdomain and port number there and start playing in your game.

If this makes sense to you, please let me know. If not, I am not sure else what to say. Good luck.

how do i get the game out of local mode?

I think there is a box in the configure area where you can uncheck it. Look under where you put ip address there is a box called local. If it is checked then you need to uncheck it. It should take it off off local mode. I hope this helps.

Woot. Orion I think you may be able to answer this atleast I am hoping so. I just found that the game could be run over the net, 2 days ago while I was bored silly and browsing, on to the point..
I and a firend both ran BBS's in the day, and I showed it to him, He has a Staic IP at his shop, Our problem is the computers are all networked behind a Router and thus have LAN IP's assigned, is there a walkthrough somewhere on how to set the machines up while there behind the dang router? or anyone know how to set the dang thing to allow conection from the net to that machine? any help greatly appreciated.!

if you set the ip to auto in the config screen then it will auto detect the ip....Now when you go back into the config screen it might say 198.162.XXX.XXX but as long as the port is set right then it should connect to whatever the ip is.

I dont know about that, I been trying to figure out a way to connect through mine at work and havent had any luck yet. The problem lies with what IP to connect to because the one shown in TWGS will not be found from the outside of the network. I have tried several other programs like VNC and PC Anywhere also with no luck, I think it has to do with port forewarding of the router or firewall and I have no idea how to configure that.
