Having issues getting to the underground in one of the games I play on. When we go to the trader and ask him "Underground" or "Mafia", we get nothing but the normal mumbo jumbo from him. As of yet, noone in the game has been able to get to the underground and we're not sure why. Is it sysop configurable to turn off? When I hit "v" from the menu, this is the version it shows. Ver# 2.03a running under The Major BBS. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Darklin |

All I can tell you is to go to tavern and talk to the grimmy trader, ask him about underground, answer no to his first question and yes to his second question which should be, do you want to know the password to the underground? will ya pa me ? (or something like this I dont remember exactly what he says) answer yes and pay his price and he will tell you the password. If this does not work I dont know what to tell ya. |

Doesn't work. We already tried that. |

I've been in games where people changed the underground PW to things like just a series of spaces....you have to be really carefully to write down Grimey's exact answer and then try several approaches... Think about things like use of "" quote marks or not? |

Here. This is what I'm saying. He's not giving any response that makes sense. This is a copy of what he's saying. The grizzled old trader buries his face in his mug as you approach. He appears to be both a little senile and addled by his ale. "Why hello der matey! Have a sit and buy me an ale, eh?" You sit down and talk to the old Trader. (Enter the subject you want to know about, blank to exit) > UNDERGROUND "Don't waste my time! Everyone knows about UNDERGROUND." > UNDERGROUND "Maybe you should ask Kal Durak about UNDERGROUND." > UNDERGROUND "Don't be such a Slog! Everyone knows about that!" > UNDERGROUND "UNDERGROUND you say? Can't say I know what you mean!" > UNDERGROUND "Let's talk about something more interesting, eh?" He's giving responses like it means nothing at all. If it were something simple, I'd be able to figure it out I think, but without the proper responses, I can do nothing. Darklin |

Darklin Are you sure that that works in that verion of tradewars? It is really old and has a lot of differences from the version currently being supported. |

Can you even attempt to enter the Underground, where the Thug guy asks for the password? |

Are there versions of TW that this doesn't work in? How can I tell if this is one of them? And yes, if I hit "U", it does go to the underground. |

I have no idea, but it looks like you are unable to get the password the way you can in the current versions. You could try "Beware of Kal Durak" as the password, that's what it starts as in the twgs versions. |

Actually that one didn't work either. But I had the sysop take down the board, and look up the password. Still wish I knew why it wasn't working though. |

Reading the tread , I didn't see a mention of your alinment. If your alinment is over 400 or 500 you can't get into the underground even if you did get the password right. Vid Kid/CareTaker |

When I tried it, I was on an account with -209 allignment. The other person trying it was at -50k allignment or so. He wouldn't send the right response to either of us. But, I had the sysop get the new password. It works fine for the guy with -50k allignment. He can get into the underground and do everything he's supposed to be able to. Still, I would like to know why the trader isn't responding like he's supposed to be. Darklin |

Reading your log cap it seems you sat down with Grimey and asked him right away about UNDERGROUND. Have you tried buying him a drink first to loosen his tongue and then ask about UNDERGROUND again as the 2d question? (Of course being a slimey knockoff of 'Jaba the Hut' he will also want a bribe again at that point!) [;)] |

I haven't tried buying him a drink first. I didn't think it was necessary. I know about the money. I asked about password and got the same results. Darklin |
