Why is the field for my extended info file grey, I hit the File button then Select (modify and clear are not clickable) but nothing happens. Is there a specific folder I have to put my *.txt or *.ans file in order to be able to select it?

Taz still sitting with the old boring menu screen!

Thnx in Adv

I'm going to go with a hunch .. your talking about you game discriptions ? under comfirute .. and game folder of TWGS [?]
Ok , if so .. you need to browse to a directory where you store
them but default is : C:\Program Files\EIS\TWGS\ and you have to write them before you browse to them.

If your refering to Ships in Gold Tedit , then you must make them
in Ansi folder of game (most games dont have this folder at default bang) but use the default one at C:\Program Files\EIS\TWGS\Games\ANSI\
if it doesnt see the in game folder one. So be carefull.
So best to make a copy of the original ..the server will see each one in its own TW# folder .. edit them there (ansi folder) and then in Tedit option 1 (ships) , option 5 name the file you created.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Vid Kid,

I should have been more specific, you were right , I am talking about game decriptions... when I hit the configure button.. the configure window comes up I then highlight one of the games then go down and hit the file button next to the extended info field, a pulldown appears that says Select, Modify, and Clear. Modify and Clear are dimmed out, but Select isn't .....when I hit Select .... nothing happens. Also the box between the words Extended Info and the File button is greyed out. I put a file called 'gamea desc.txt' in the EIS\TWGS folder before doing this, I also tried putting the file in the Game folder itself. I don't however have my game folder with the default name of TW1, instead I have it named GameA, but that shouldn't matter. Any other ideas would be great!

Ok , in my configuration/Games .. the games are Game 1 , Game 2 ... etc. and Data Directory has path to my games TW1 , TW2 , etc folder.
So When I select Extended info .. file/Select it brings me up into a Directory I set at Server Tab (and check marked) , this panal lets you select Text or Ansi files that are availible.

So check that setting too .
Mine is stored @ ... EIS\TWGS\DescFiles\ but I might have made that folder or one of the original incanations of TWGS made it for me .. but thats where that stuff goes :)

Have fun with it .. but its best to just leave message about server rules.
because games change so often its hard to keep up with those files.

just a thought. [:)]

Ok, followed everything you said. Only got stuck at the part about the directory on the server tab, what is supposed to be checkmarked?. My root is c:\Program files\eis\twgs. I put my *.ans files in this directory, and in the gamedesc folder, no matter what when I hit File\Select (by the extended info field) nothing happens, no browsing ability, it just clicks and the pull down menu (thats says select, modify, clear) just disappears. Ohhhhh woooeeee is me [:(]

Thanks for trying though.

I just followed throught the instructions : server tab .. done ..
no check mark there. There is 2 that nedd to be on or off in settings.
this is where those files are set.

Startup Menu - INTRO.ANS no check mark
and Discription Menu DESC.ANS no check mark
those names will follow the default folder TWGS/

Remember they can be text as well , but have .txt after them.

have any more problems .. Email Me

Vid Kid,
It's a funny thing, what I found, I found about 2 hours ago, right before reading your post. To reproduce whats been happening to me is very simple. Click on configure, goto games tab, Place a forward slash anywhere in one of your Game descriptions. Go below and click on file (next to extended info), and click on select, try to browse for a new desc file. See how nothing happens, no browse file window pops up! You now see why I was so fustrated. Had done everything else right from the beginning! I had my games named like this 'Classic ( 1000 sectors / 1000 turns / Banged Oct03)' after reducing the name to just 'Classic', I was finally able to click select and have the browser window come up. The browser window automatically places the game name in the filename box as the default, if a forward slash is in the game name, then the browser window must get confused, and refuses to open.[:p] Thanks for your help though, and may this not happen to anyone else, EVER![:D]
