What if the ferrengi, federation, alien traders, etc all had the ability to post messages to people. Like the ferrengi could mock killed traders or their corporations via M.A.I.L.? Or the federation could email corporations like "Boomer, we have our Eye on you. Clean up your evil ways or we will send our comissioned officers after you"... etc. Also, would it be cool if some NPC (non-player character) could give you a "quest" or errend to run for them? Like the federation could send you an email saying, "Reports show a rogue planet in sector XXX, go and claim this for the federation and receive your reward!" Then the game produces a planet in this sector, XXX number of fighters defending it, perhapse mines, qcannon, etc based on your current ability (perhapse based off of experiance and alignment)... same with evil trader, although theirs would be more sinister. But this way, the rewards could outweigh the cost in fighters and time and make it worth while to do them. like get extra XPs, Align, Figs/Holds/Shields or something... Or just something like, take this [THING] to a [PLACE] (like a Class 5 port or something for a newbie) Sound cool or stupid? Just an Idea.[:D] |

The problem is the ferregi race just is'nt very smart. want a quest? make some cash buy a bunch of e probes and look for a real live person or persons bubble to mess with. Its alot more fun than blowing up the stupid game generated idiots. besides that, wasting your time and resources on game generated dummies will only leave you more vulnerable to the person or persons that are looking for you. |

Actually, I've considered doing this on my own. Get a few friends and set certain times everyday when people could talk to these "NPC". Then the sysop could create this goal (planet, ship, certain Alien/Sysop character) and the appropriate defenses. If its an "NPC", your friend could make the chase fun for the player. The target will fight back, but not to the point of killing the player (well,...maybe). Could make a game interesting, yes? |

Its alot more fun than blowing up the stupid game generated idiots Thats all fine and dandy if your playing in a very active game. Not every game on every server is like this, and there are those that want a little varitey from the same old SSM scripts and fig dropping routines out there and are looking for something else. I've just gotten a couple requests for little excitment from the game to keep interest going from your less "hardcore" individuals. quote: From abbeyroad Then the sysop could create this goal (planet, ship, certain Alien/Sysop character) and the appropriate defenses. Sounds like a good idea. Perhapse making a game with some progressive goals for the players to accomplish with rewards to match. Not too shabby. Still wish there was some built in quest engine where people could just go request a quest if they feel tired of the same old same old.[8)] |

That could be cool, you could bang a game with different goals than the usual, such as "find this planet" or whatever. The edits could be planned to support(or not support) whatever the goal is. |

You can bang the game that way, and there are a lot of games out there with "Capture the flag (planet)" themes. The sysop creates a number of planets (5 for example), the the goal is to find, invade, and claim more than anybody else. I've seen other games with specific goals. Of course, most of these can't be programmed into the server so that it recognizes when the goal is achieved, but it can still be stated as the theme for the game. |

lol Yah, Grand theft Planet!! Or Grand Theft ISS. [:)] You could set up a game where there are no ships available for sale at SD, but you could repo one out floating in space if you had the skill to get it without destroying it! Perhapse piloted by quick and nimble Alien Traders or something... hmmm... I think I have just stumbled apon something here. [:D] |
