I am the first to ***** about something. This time I want to be the first to bring what I think is positive thikngs to the forum. =================================================================== First: I am Bringing this from the other forum. http://www.eisonline.com/twforum/topic. ... C_ID=12073 outlaw78 States: Last night game "E", Totally Unlimited was banged and everything was going smooth. I was logged in observer mode. After I seen everything was going smooth which was about 1 to 2 hours, give or take, I logged out. This afternoon when I woke up, I see that almost everybody was destroyed. I checked the logs to see what was going on... A player was running an attack script that baricaded Stardock. And because I didn't specify any rules this would have to be fair play and I have to let this game continue. But I did make another game identical that game but with some slight ship edits and other edits. I will be bringing this game online shortly (and I will post when the bang is complete). The only differnce is that this game will have some rules... #1 No baricading Stardock or Sector 1 I am doing this for all the players who either feel cheated or disappointed. When I bring the new game online the main screen will be edited as well to reflect the "!' screen. This will be the rules screen. These new screens are not online now, but they will be when I bring the new game online. This game will be Game "I" Revisited Unlimited. ===================================================================== I dont ever remember playing here but I may have. Outlaw78 shows me what I feel a good game-op is. He took an unpleasant situation at his server,(unpleasant to the dead players and Him, not for the attacker who had a hell of a good time.)It was something he did not want done at his server. There was no wrong doing from the attacker. Outlaw78 did not have a knee jerk reaction and ban the attacker. But to keep his other players happy Fixed the perceived problem, almost seamlessly. Good Job. ===================================================================== Second: Harley Nuss (teamEIS)Technical Support Leader Wrote, If you put Stardock next to sector 1, you can probably avoid having to worry much about it. It will allow people a way out. ===================================================================== This is also a good idea, I have seen it used before. Third: Why dont sysops make the port at SD SBB. I have seen this done at only 1 server I have played. It is nice to buy a new ship, and be able to fuel up at SD. Especially if SD is surrounded or no SXX port is adj. Thanx for listening to my mad ravings. and Have Fun. |

Probably the reason it isn't often changed to a Sxx is because it isn't readily apparent how. After playing with it a bit, here's the method I came up with. First, edit the sector stardock is in, and find out what port number is there. Then edit the port. Use option B to change the port type to what you want (3 is SBB). Use option B again to change it back to type 9. The port will now be stardock but will be SBB on the product part instead of BBB. You may also want to increase the product amount under F so it will hold more ore as a maximum. Now, that said, I can't guarantee that it won't cause corruption, as it doesn't really look like it's how it was designed to work. In my test game I haven't noticed any readily apparent, but then I don't really do enough in it to necessarily notice. |

I hope no one minds, I thought this particular thread had great potential for the sysop/gameop forum so moved it here from the smack talk forum. |

I have a question concerning changing what type of port SD has...If you change the port type to class 3 instead of class 9, can you upgrade the port? I understand that you aren't allowed to upgrade a class 0 or 9, but maybe a class 3? Then again I don't even own a regged version on my own system, and I don't recall ever playing on a server with a different port at SD other than BBB, so maybe I'm missing the point because I know you can't upgrade the port at SD. Just my thoughts though. HHH |

Yes just as kemper3 explained it you can upgrade it also. I have done it on my server and no problems so far. Just a nice option. And since you can buy every thing else there why not fuel. |

I think I saw this on CK's server under one of the old epoch games- where SD was attached to fed...was really handy- fill up with ore and zoom out. If I remember correctly- I think he had already upped it too. |

Yeah, I've done it on occasion, and it works well. Not to help newbies live longer, as we all know newbies will die quickly regardless of the edits or settings. It's just a nice convenience. I've also experimented with placing Terra at the stardock, and that has been interesting. |

There are some settings that will let some people with a bit of experience live longer. Things like 20k sectors, 1000 or less turns, and really expensive e-probes will give them more time to live. Also, doing something like turning off steal from buy ports should let a newer player survive longer. It will decrease the gap in cashing potential between them and a more experienced player. It probably wont' allow them to win, but it will mean they can play for 8-10 days instead of just 2-3. |
