I discovered that the TWGS menu (where you select a game) inconsistently uses strange line endings. Some of them are a proper CR+LF, but others consist bizarrely of LF+CR. Suddenly you're Busted! |

This is a carry over from the original days of Trade Wars. They could be changed for consistency throughout the menus/prompts, but in some cases that could break older helpers. quote: EIS does it's best to maintain a backward compatibility with older helper programs. Well, recent changes in the game have already broken some helpers; e.g., length of planet number display, prompting to clear avoids when there's no path for a probe. I wonder how many helpers would be broken by fixing this. I bet most of them already do what I'm going to do: ignore it! Suddenly you're Busted! |

Any helper/script code really needs to be able to handle a wide variety of EOL sequences anyhow. ANSI on/off can make a difference, as can a BBS front end, or proxy put inbetween. You really need to be able to match [\r\n\0(ANSI sequence)]* if you want your code to always work. Dr. Bad Edited by - bdavey on August 09 2002 7:08:50 PM |
