quote: What causes this? I'm running win95, 100mhz pentium, 32 megs of RAM, 16 nodes (Synchronet). It seems to occur when I have around 3-4 or more nodes trying to run Trade Wars. Are you running the door version or TWGS? If you're running the door version, the cause is most likely you need to increase your FILES= setting in config.sys (that would be my first guess). If you're running TWGS, I'm honestly not sure what the cause would be. Also, if you are running the door version, I'd suggest seriously upgrading to TWGS. You can keep your current TW2002 registration, and TWGS runs very well under Synchronet with RLOGIN enabled. I've run up to a dozen nodes on a P90 w/40 mb RAM under Windows NT with TWGS. It became quite laggy around six or seven players, but it still ran well enough for the average player to enjoy. Lisa M. Running the door version, and I'm keeping it that way since I... run a BBS and some other doors. I changed the FILES setting to 127, as suggested in the docs, buuut...when I try to play locally, I get a divide by zero error in tw2002...however, remote play works fine. |

I'm not sure what would cause the divide by zero error only on the local console. I run a BBS as well, with several older door games, but run TWGS directly off the BBS similar to a standard door game, and it works well other than the fact that WorldGroups has some RLOGIN problems. The door version is still supported somewhat, but I don't believe it's being actively developed like TWGS is, which is another good reason for upgrading. I've never had a setup problem under TWGS, and it's far less moody that your average door program utilizing dropfiles and fossil drivers. If I could run every door I have through TWGS my life would be a lot less complicated. Lisa M. Wilson aka Rave uhndagrowhn bbs uhndagrowhn bbs telnet://uhndagrowhn.merseine.nu |

Try making the FILES setting even bigger? When I used to run a Telegard BBS, I set up an extra node for local use. The DOOR version of TW likes you to have every node set up individually. I would suggest just playing it through the BBS though if you have Synchronet. You'll probably have more nodes than users online anyways... And BTW- You can get the Game Server version and still have all your other doors. The TWGS version is easier to use with a BBS anyway, IMHO. |
