I know there is mention of AI in the gold edition but I cannot find anything on AI anywhere in EIS. Can someone point me in the right direction for this?

The Alien AI, including the AI Software Development Kit (SDK) is currently on hold pending game and server bugs being worked out.

not sure why you say this ..
Scripting "according to you" spoils games
so we just add in a whole race of scripters .. on top of that they are not limited by ANY means to the bandwith of the server .. if the link is down for a week then the alien races keep going ..
The gold ferrengi/alien's need alot of work .. I doubt anyone is happy with 400 ferrengi regening each day .. I think that jp has been tweaking normal ferrengi too as some of the msg's seem differnt :/ .. not confirmed that yet but i plan to ..

The biggest change to the Gold aliens that would improve the system (in my most humble opinion) would be to prevent destroyed aliens from regen for a period of 1 hour to XX hours, sysop configurable. Or if it's too much hassle to make it a configurable, either 12 or 24 hours. I think this would do wonders in games that have active Gold aliens.

I am sure. You mean you aren't?
I like to make the AI as human as possible to make the game even more interesting for even ONE player. This would also give 30 real players a test in their meddle. I find the current one lacking and it's tough to make it "Interesting" for the players.

One thing that people forget is that just because a sysop has ACCESS to make something unbeatable or ultra-fast, doesn't mean he will (though after viewing some of the gold settings on current games, I begin to doubt my own words.)
Sysops who make things unplayable by making things impossible run the same risks of old gamemasters of tabletop RPG's that enjoy killing off their players. They soon find themselves without any players.
The hardest thing to balance is the desire to make the game challenging but not certain death (especially for multiple levels of player) with the prospect of wanting to be Santa Claus (or giving your players everything that their little hearts desire). Not many people can do this effectively, and even with all the practice I've had over the years with Tabletop RPG's, MUD programming and now TWGS, I still find that I have to do a LOT of balancing and checks to keep things reasonable. You give your players too much, they get bored for lack of challenge. You give them too little or kill them off all the time, they get tired and leave.
Sysops are not interested in losing their players or their users, and those that take advantage of these settings to watch their "aliens" like they are children and giving them every advantage - Well, that's just plain stupid and they will soon find themselves without any players.
I think that sysops that were interested in keeping their players will be responsible with these settings, and introduce plenty of checks to keep alien races (even though they DO have access to unlimited bandwidth and time) balanced, as long as the AI kit allows us to enter them into the game. From what I've seen in the helpfiles for the Alien AI as proposed, there was plenty of control, though I have no idea what JP is planning for the actual future release.

I more than tend to agree with you. I would like to have more options on the AI in the game to do nothing else than make each game different.
There is an extremely fine line now between making the AIs boring and easy prey and overwhelming the players. So far, I have been reluctant to put on an overwhelming game but am tempted to see if the more "Expienced" players could handle it. But those are very and few far between these days that could hang in a game like that. I, personally, would enjoy it win, lose or draw.
I don't know too much of what JP has planned either. JP, surprise us. (grin)
