when i reset my computer after a power failure. i noticed that my theam on my windows 7 desk top had been changed by an unknown program. with id 1168, or somthing like that.

when i tried to find the offending program in my taskmanger it was not there...

foolishy thinking that the only program not by microsoft that is running is my TWGS. and when i ran TWGSSERV.EXE and was about to reset it so i could see if it was the offending program, which i doubt it was, avast wanted me to delete TWGS.EXE. thinking that it was a rootkit.

so my server is down now because it is doing a "boot" time scan. i am hopeing that it is just a false positive.... or is it?

Microsoft Essential's, low overhead and I have not been burned. Free for Windows Xp and newer.

Take a look at AVG antivirus. Both free and paid versions are available.

What's funny is I use Avast on all of my machines. I haven't had this issue.

I am aware that some anti-malware and and anti-virus software get bent out of shape because TWGS and the TW executables have a modified exe header. I do this I can compile TWGS and TW as console apps, but allow them to run without a console window. The only modification is a GUI/CUI flag, but it's enough to cause red-flags. I wonder if that's what's triggered your antivirus.

I use Avira which has received pretty good reviews as far as free antivirus programs go, though, be warned, it is nagware and will pop up a window asking you to buy it once or twice daily. I also run regular scans with Malwarebytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Spybot. All are free.

could be. it suggested it as a "possable" threat. when i did a full scan afterwords it did not find any "real" threats.

just thought i would metion it. because it seems odd that it would flag it. when i knew it was not one.

now avast is attacking Extern.exe and even caused me a blue screen of death as my computer had a memory dump and then restarted when extern.exe ran. i figure a virus has infected my tradewars server. so i might have to wipe my hard-drive and start a dedicated server as my trade wars only when i am done. you might see new games when my server comes back online. i like Avast and i like tradewars. both are great products. so in my final conclusion i will reinstall both on a clean slate and see if they can still get along. if not well i figure i will have to get rid of one. i hate being in the middle of an argument. that is why i never try to get into one.

but most of the time one starts because of controversy. and i hold on to what i think is "right"

but i digress.

I think I said this before, but I use Avast myself and I'm not seeing this problem.

i just started fresh today. the only programs i have installed on the computer are TWGS, Avast, and firefox. and so far no problems. i was thinking that before i had a third party virus. so i know it's not TWGS or Avast. as they are now working OK on the fresh install. i am also making that computer as a tradewars only computer. it will restart only when updates are ready and are being installed.

fortunately my code i used still works.

but i lost all the data in the wipe.

i guess you can mark this thread as locked. since i am not having issues anymore.
