I've encountered what appears to be a bug while invading on two different servers. The latest was a TWGS 1.03, the other was a while ago, so I'm not sure.

Basically half way into an invasion, the defending planets instantly refill completely with fuel. In both cases, they were planets that had obviously been sitting a while. Has anyone else experienced this?

Are you sure they refilled?  If you fired a ptorp into the sector prior to the invasion, the planets can be p-dampened and won't fire a full load of ore when they are in this condition.  Later when they aren't p-dampened, they will fire a much larger amount.   I believe only planets that aren't shielded can be p-dampened by a torp though.   Anyway this could be the reason you thought they refilled with ore.

All planets were fully shielded. The damage followed the formulas as I drained them to a reasonable level. This time around it was 116666, 75833, 49291, ...so 35% sector level on stock 1mil fuel Volcanics. When I got into the sector and tried to land, I got hit for exactly 500k atmos when there should have been around 400k fuel left. On my next attempt to enter the sector, I got hit again for 116666 from each planet (well, I died before the last one). It was definitely the same planets, and no defending players were online throughout. I also had this happen a few years ago on a different server, but I don't remember all the details.

Was this planet by chance in an alien home sector?  The aliens in some games can fill a planet FAST.

I seem to remember something about planets that have gone rogue having a bug where this happens.  You might search the forums for rogue planets or planet invasions.

I've had it happen to me too.
It is something to do with rogue planets, and that when you try to land at a certain time, it recalculates the amount of ore on the planet to a date WAY past, so you get hit for big damage.

Ok, I did a search and turned up a pretty good explanation that narrows the bug down to the time between people trying to land on the planet. In my last experience it looks like it recalculates the whole sector when you go to land on one. I quoted the whole message below for future reference. I guess I should have searched first. Just wanted to make sure it got addressed.

Also what about the bug involving Rogue planets, during the Invasion
the player has to attempt to land to prevent it from occurring
otherwise it will load the planet’s Fuel Ore capacity to the maximum.
I
believe this is related to planets not properly regenning until someone
attempts to land on it. When someone goes to land, it calculates time
since the last land attempt, then calculates ore regen. In a game where
a planet has been updated in a long time that way, you can moth 1
million ore off of a planet, then finally try to land, and whe you do,
it will regen back to full ore. quote:
I recall reading something awhile back involving a trick in Timed Games where a player can somehow double their time ?

afaik, that has been fixed.

Just to clarify?  This was a bug in an earlier version that has been fixed in the current version?

It hasn't been fixed entirely, you just need to attempt a landing for the ore to update. Obviously this is a problem with sector blasts when games are old.

+1

Ran into it on Abyss and thats still a fairly new server. Been going on for years, and is a PITA some times. I've found that if u have a scanner and in a sec with multiple planets start the land process but abort (no planet # entered) then remoth the sector to drain the new ore should work.

Nice fix stormrider hehe.

stormrider beat me to it. having a planet scanner on your ship causes the twgs to recalc the planet when you get the list of planets in sector. without a planet scanner the twgs won't do the recalc until you actually attempt to land on one. i'm not sure if it just recalcs the planet you're landing on or the whole sector.

planet scanner ftw!

planet scanner ftw!

Just a guess but it is probably the entire sector.  The reason I think this might be true is based on the script I wrote to change ownership of a large number of planets after a planet buyout - changing the planets from corp to personal brought the server to a halt.  I was told that even though I was aborting the planet list, TWGS still got the planet info from all planets.  I don't know if this is true or not, but I do know we killed the server when the script ran so something was maxing the cpu.

Nod, that's very common on unlims where there's a planet buyout or even a big sector and an active ore wh0re. I've seen servers get lagged to a grinding halt because of it.

LOL.. it's a habit now.. if I come into a game late and start invading, I find myself doing an aborted landing everytime, even if game is only 3 days old. Of course.. I also tend to make sure I cleared a path to somewhere safer if accidents happen, too.

Rev- it works in the whole sector. Since ur not actually specifying a particular sector planet #, TWGS recalcs them all. Wish it would just do ALL the game's planets at once, but oh well. Only reason I even have a ship or 3 w/p-scanners is invasions.
