For some reason, people stopped being able to log onto my server, it only took me a moment to realize that my IP had changed, but I thought that was the whole point of a Dynamic IP address? I registered Matador.Servegame.Org and people could not connect to the server until I manually changed the IP setting.

Isnt Dynamic IP addresses supposed to point them to your IP no matter how many times it changes?

A static IP is one you will keep for a long period of time. If you have a domain on a dynamic IP, you will have to change the domain to point to that new issued IP. I run Dynamic, but I run and keep my DNS updated, and I also use the dyndns.org service. This way if my IP does change, then players can use the backup domain I provide until I make the switch in my DNS and at the domain registration section.

The power of a dynamic name like that isn't that the name magically updates itself, it's that it gives you the tools (like a little client proggy) to keep up to date by yourself.

Most dyndns websites have a client that you download that will automatically update your IP addy to their server. I use http://www.no-ip.com/ for my hosting and they have a downloadable client that will check your ip for changes every set smount of minutes. If your IP is changed it will auto update the server so your dynamic name keeps pointing to your current IP. I know that dyndns.org has these clients as well. Hope this helps a bit.

I started playing on your server last week ... I wondered what the problem was
Sorry you are having trouble with that. Like others, I have been using a dynamic updater tool and no-ip.com to automatically update my dns, although this only happens once in a blue moon. The DNS has to be updated each time your ip address changes. Hope you can work something out.

Cheers,

Vaclav

I noticed you online! Thanks for playing. Server has run perfectly for the last week, no downtime even though this horrible storm.

Thanks for the help and support!

I use changeIP.com to update DNS servers and TheHomingBeacon (freeware) to keep it current automatically.
