192.xxxxx is a local network IP. You're behind a router.

This comes up a lot, so I made a little tool:
http://www.navhaz.com/who_am_i.php

Will give you the IP the world sees you as. Just run it from your server.

It sounded like you were setting that extern address in the server- dont. the server and your local system _are_ 192.whatever on the inside of the router. the OUTSIDE of the router is the other number. you need to have the router forward port xxx:whatever to that port on the inside address.
modem-router has one (dynamic IP) set by your ISP
router-computer has whatever you set as your IP scheme.

does that help?

Dyndns is great, by all means get one if you're planning to run twgs.

The binding to port error is because the port you're using is already taken. Probably port 23. Change to port 2002 and see what happens.

And yes he was using a NAT router, NAT routers assign an internal IP to all computers and translate the address to the outside world thru a system of MAC and request tables. But set TWGS to run as "auto" and it'll do fine on the IP thing. You will need to set port forwarding on your router for this to work, yes. But the binding error on the computer is specifically caused by something else on that port.

Ok, I had to goto port 2002 ... so I need to port forward 2002 to my internal IP, which I had with 23, and I set it to Auto as you said above.
Ok.. it's set to 2002 now, port forwarded to my computer, server is up, just a generic game banged.. can some take a peek?
it shoud be telnet://72.193.10.78:2002
Let me know what happens.

It's still not coming up. I have no idea what you're doing with all of the port forwarding, lol. Do this: Make the server listen at port 2002. Go to the router, set it's port forwarding to your localnet IP on port 2002. Then you usually need to reboot the router after you've saved the configuration.

512 is a reserved port, really anything below 1024 may be reserved. Port 23 is reserved for telnet, altho most people don't have a telnet client running so it works out ok. But XP has quite a number of services running so it's best to run only on the ports you know are clear.

You get the 49 error when something else is listening on port 23, like maybe TWX Proxy, I have mine set to listen on another port, also if the built in windows telnet server is active the TWGS won't connect port 23, you have to stop the telnet server to get the twgs to connect. Good that you went to 2002, if there are any more problems, get with any of us sysops, one of us may have had the problem and know how to fix it.

IP addr should be automatic, not dotted. Prolly also should add an admin password. Then reboot the router.

Ok...
I tried a few things, ending up mashing the router reset button
(tried unplugging it but ended up dumping EVERYTHING)
Try it now:
telnet://72.198.10.78:23/
Thanks for the continued support!
Again, I think its a basic game (ha! If you ever get to it)
