Hi, just bought twgs with tw2002 Gold to set up a server in Europe (tired of lags when playing US Servers....)
As soon as I have the registration Codes I will try everything out.
Does anyone know if it is
a- possible
b- allowed
to translate the txt. files for the Help files and the Menues into the German language?
Since it is possible to play the Game with JAWS, I would like to offer it to blind people in the Germanspeaking countries. Now many of them know some english, but would be a lot more comfy if there was some german Menues and helps.
Does anyone know?
Who would I have to ask for permission if possible (copyright etc.)???
Wishing you all a happy New Year

unless you want to make them audio?

You can edit those files to your own liking/needs. I think you would be able to get the ascent effects you need by either using ACSII through and editor such as The Draw or through the Windows Character Map and the Note Pad Program.   Though the actual text of the game would be in English, not sure of how you would get around that, other then some type of conversion script, which would probably cause more problems then anything else.

-Never heard of Braille? Blind people use computer and access the Internet with special Hardware that transmit text into Braille or if neccessary via a special Program (JAWS) into spoken word.
But having to play it above all that in an unacustomed language does not make it any easier.
Ciao

well i am sure if you contacted the author, he would be willing to help you with the issue.

i still do not understand how a blind player could be competitive in a txt based game, the delay in translation
to either braille or audio should be enough that any counters to other players aggressive actions would be difficult at best if not impossible.

but there has to be a way to compensate for that.
if you need any help with this plz let me know.

You are right of course. If I was playing in a game with braille keyboards and had to compete with accomplished players and corps, I would have no chance at all to develop my skills.
But then TW is one of the few games that dont use extensiv GUI, and blind people are verymuch into computing, but cannot participate on normal Games because there everything depends on Graphik.

But then I have played on some of the US Games and I experience a Lag at the prompt of sometimes +minutes, so its practicly the same thing.
Also Swath has a special mode for braille users and if I change the setting enough, I will find some Games, that favour handicapped and try to keep out things like fast skripts. If nessesary I will make the users register and abide by regulations for this situation.
Thereby I will depend on advice from the community of experienced players and so I thank you for the help offered.
Wishing you and all members of the TW community a beautiful 2007.

You are right, but I think its a good start to translate the menues and a manual. I used to play TW with my boys, to get them to learn to think in english and it didnt take long and they were chasing me allover the universe.
Anyhow, now that I am retired, I need something new and interesting to do....:-).
I am sure there are some blind people playing TW in the US, otherwise there would not be a special mode for JAWS in Swath. Would like to get advice from them how to get around the problems. So if you guys know someone, please get them to communicate with me..
Happy new year to all of you
