What is Jumpgate? It is a way to find the registered TWGS out there in the TW universe, If a TWGS is registered, it will show on the Jumpgate listing, and you will have the data to reach the TWGS to play and you will have info on the games on the TWGS you are looking up. It is a whole new way to find a TWGS out there that fits your needs or playing style, and will find all registered TWGS out there. No longer will you have to search Google to find a TWGS to play on and it will work well to find the TWGS that aren't listed on Stardock's TWGS search, in all they will copmliment one another, and Jumpgate will give the players a variety of choice to use its functions. Like the old Life cereal commercial, Try it you'll like it.

Thanks Vulcan for the addition!

Everyone else, this is your change to contribute. We always complain that the documention is crap. Well, spend 10 minutes writing up what jumpgate is and there will be nothing to complain about. I promise you that jumpgate will revolutionize the way we search for games.

If i posted something in smack talk, i am sure i would have 20 replies within the hour :)
Lets see some thought here.

Welcome to Tradewars newest technology, Jumpgates!
This will enable the tradewarrior to locate specific
configurations that match there specific styles of play.
No more logging into a game and finding its not what you wanted.
No more endless hours searching for a game to play.
Also any Sysop that has the jumpgate option disabled for there twgs will not be listed, privacy will still be maintained for thoses who want it.

Didn't Eleq and cbs228 make something similar to that which is currently active at the stardock? Gameops have to register server and then it upgrades games as they occur. It seems with a minor bit of tweaking that their effort could support new games and licences to include a few details such as 'open server', 'games by invite only', 'play by registering at website' and any other details. Maybe I am thinking in another direction than JumpGate developers have been thinking? My 1st impression on hearing about JumpGate a couple years ago that it was an attempt to build an impossible program trying to move corps and resources between servers and was very happy to learn later that was not the case! In Eleq's work, sysops register a server and Eleq's scripts logs in and gets the information and all that stuff. The user must register and the check takes up a node (i might be wrong on that). This is a pull system. stardock.com pulls data from the TWGS.

In jumpgate, it is a push system. When you create a game, or twgs updates, the data is sent to a jumpgate server that will manage the data for the website. Also jumpgate (web portion) will be part of a new tradewars portal which will link a New Bang Calendar and other goodies like blogs so you can go crazy.

When i go to Eleq's site, i see there are only 24 servers registered. That is a terribly low number. While the site is excellent, TW people have a tendency to be lazy.

Eleq's twgs search engine does use a node on the twgs to gather its info. For servers thay have only a few nodes open and may have them filled at times this could cause a problem, it may cause a player to not be able to log in when the search engine connects to a server. Also by the same token the twgs search engine can't update your server either if all nodes are taken. I don't worry about it cause I have the max nodes active on my server, and I am also one of the 24 servers listed, which does generate players to the server.

The Jumpgate function like earth said will basically be an automatic update when you change something and/or when it is time for the auto update to the jumpgate server takes place. And the jumpgate data comes from the server itself without tieing up any nodes. and will be active in all twgs when it is done, from what I gather, I could be wrong though. But I think I have it close enough to let you get the picture.

Is the jumpgate in TWGS suppose to be active or is it still in the works? Sounds like it is going to be an interesting feature to have.

maybe it will be out soon, just keep an eye out for it to come out. If all things come together on it, it will be awsome. Now if it will get a twgs behind a bbs, then it would truely be awsome.

And the people working on it are doing a great job getting things done and in place for it.

This is probably somewhat of a stupid question, but is the JumpGate going to basically replace the game rebang index threads on this site or where/how is the user end going to be accessed?

On a related note - is there a reason nobody is using Xen's utility anymore? I was just looking through the rebangs and was wondering.

Me I forgot to load the utility on the new server, just loaded it this morning after rebanging a game. Laff. Will be using it again now.
