Good evening;

I am curious on the import/export in the editor. I have a game about to start on the weekend, and I saw this in the editor. Does the TWGS allow us to import/export, or is this a feature that may come out in future releases?

You use this to get a set of game edits. If you want to use a specific set of edits, you import the twa file and then do a fresh big bang. The same goes for exporting, if you did up some game edits and want another server to run it, you export it, and it creates a twa file.

The import/export on the TWGS is to get the TWA's like Coke said, but if you have tried to use it while the server is running it won't work, you have to stop the server to get it to work, if you need to know how to use it ICQ me and I will help you thru it, or you can get any sysop to help you on this, it isn't really that hard you have to get some TWA's to be able to import to the TWGS I have some on my main site for my TWGS and forum, and Vader has some as well. Also I think there is a coast games page that is still floating around with TWA's on it too. I think this is the page from coast games: http://www.coastgames.com/files/index.php

I hope this helps you out, to export you have to hilight a game on the list showing the games on the window that has the game bang and editor, and hit the archive and click the export to export a game you made to where you tell it to send it on your computer, then you can share the game data with others like we all do when we can.

Thank you both. I appreciate the help. I do have a twa file for all games. I had assumed the import/export only worked if the server was down. I was looking more to just pulling planet specs from one game into another game. I have done exactly what you suggested and it worked out great. Thank you.

No problem and I hope you get the feel of how it works and when you get a game on the TWGS and look at some game specs from the game, write down the settings and put them into effect in the game you create and or a game that already exists, this is the great thing of the TWA's, you can take one game and mod it and make a TWA of the modded game and make a whole new variation of the game.

I am glad we could help you on this, and good luck on the game building and editing.

Not to confuse things , but a note should be made for TWGS import/export

The export feature works perfect .. say you have some ANSI files just for that edit to depick the planets and ship edits.

The export .. well exports .. no problem all is checkmarked before the save.

The import .. well unless you prepaired your GAME# folder with a directory ANSI the import will not over right the stock set kept in the root of TWGS.

This being said .. if you were to d/l a TWA that had these files and didn't first make this folder .. your players may miss something in say Eden , or Desert Storm .. and a few other TWA's I or Rev have worked on. <plug for Rev> the guy who came up with a way to get Ansi screens to read right in text .. hehehe <nice trick , hit me up for it later>.

So there you go , make an ansi folder where you see the gold folder under the Game# folder.
And import .. if the ansi gets anything .. it will go there .. or it will read stock set for ansi's.
