Is there a file I can edit or another way to post an announcement in a specific game that is not in the daily logs? What I mean to say is daily log announcements may or may not be seen by players who don’t log on the day that it was made unless they go back and see. I would like to post an announcement that will be seen every time someone enters that particular game until I remove it.

In my opinion, anyone who doesn't check the daily log (including the previous day(s) if they were away) is missing out on potentially vital information and deserves whatever happens to him/her as a result. It should be safe to assume that any announcement you make in the daily log will be seen by everyone. If you're really worried about someone missing it, just post right after extern; in any case, any serious players will see it.

Just a thought, but you can edit the stardock text. For example, 'You bring your ship into approach for... You lose sight of.. landing pad. *newcolour* A messenger approaches and tells you that photons have been enabled as of 10pm galactic standard time. */newcolour* ....welcome to StarGate Alpha I", comes over your ship's intercom.' Most people (or at least a corp member) have to end up at SD at one point or another. STARLND2.ANS can be found in the ANSI folder, but it looks like it's global to all games so bear that in mind. Also, text can be skipped anywhere so the daily log is still your best bet in my opinion.

DC.

Thanks for the suggestions and I do agree about reading the logs. That’s how I do it now if I need to post something but sometimes 2 lines at a time is a bit cumbersome looking and was hoping I could just add something to the opening screen.

the key is to get the text somewhere that wont get aborted :) if you are just doing server rules or something, put it out on the main page of the twgs (dunno how to do that) if its just something like "the truce is over" or "photons are now active" or "corp 2 smells like cheese" well then if they miss it in the logs, its not your fault.

The main page is just an ansi file that can be edited. There are also specific rules and settings pages for each game that can be editted then accessed via ! from the main TWGS menu. There should be threads on doing that here, but if you decide to and can't find it, say so and I'll try to detail it.

I do use an edited ansi front page on the TWGS and Rules when you press ! but are you saying there is a ! page for each game on the server? If so I would like to learn more about that.

Go to configure | Games then choose the game you want that info for. What you want to do is specify a file under extended info. I think it needs to be in the descfile subdirectory, but I'm not certain. Then, after pressing !, a player can press the game letter and get that file displayed.

Very, very nice. That will come in handy. I was messing with it, just used a text file and it said it would automatically put a copy in the folder you spoke of. Its nice that you can also use a text file and it seems like it can handle longer ones as well. Ansi is nice but editing it constantly is a pain and seem limited it to just one screens worth of text or maybe its just the funky old ansi editor I use. Anyway thanks a bunch for that info!
