 extern crashes

I am running Linux Mandrake 10.0 with DOSEMU 1.1.99.1 on a Intel Celeron 733, 512 megs of ram, running Synchronet. I have no problems with most doors but when I went to install TradeWars, it crashes when it runs extern. It crashes at the point when it tries to open the menu files. Has anybody ever come across this or something like it before? Any suggestions?
