Hey guys, new game-op here. My friend and I who run a BBS together recently set up a TWGS....received our codes etc. The problem I'm having is that an owner who shut down, sent me the files for his games, but they're all .dat. IS there a way to convert everything into a twa, or am I basically screwed? This is my first message on a forum such as this, so if I followed the wrong protocol, I apologize. Thanks for your assistance.

First, what the Sys-op has given you. Is the actuall game files. All you need to do, is create a game. And replace all the game files, in that game's directory/folder. with the ones that were given to you. Make sure the TWGS server is not running before you replace the files. Or you will corrupt the game files beyond repair.

Think of the TWA files as a zip file. Because that is what the TWA files are. They are nothing more than an archive of the actuall game files.

Ok, new problem related to moving the files rather than importing. Banged a game, and the existing assets remained. Planets, figs, port cash etc. I figure there's a file I have to remove, but I'm not sure which.....and am I going to have to do this with each bang, or will the problem straighten itself out after the first. Thanks ahead.

Just shut down the server and rebang the game using existing data.

Ok, I played around with my copy of the TWGS and it appears the he failed to do something. Probably used default files or something. one of the game requires Fedspace to be edited....can I edit it and then bang it, or should I change the seed, bang it, and then change everything?

Bah....tried it with another game to verify that I had things set the way they needed it to....and it hung onto the old game data. (Existing figs/planets etc.) Frustration is settling in

You need to copy all the dat files to a a game directory (like you've done where you see the players, figs, etc). Then, you need to shut down your server, go to command center, choose the game, click on big bang, start with current data, then click ok. Then do the big bang screen. This will get rid of all the players, ships, figs, etc. Also, assuming you have a new random seed, it will give you a new random universe. Once this is done, you can edit fedspace however you want it.

Similar issue for me. I want to rebang a game and keep the ship edits like a colt with a Twarp of a custom ship that was added by my predecessor. BUT I want to delete all the game data and assets and reconfigure the warp's so we have a new universe which files do I keep and where do I keep them during the big bang and how do I bring them back (if I need to) after?

Follow the steps I outlined and you'll get a new universe with the same edits. Just make sure you get a new random seed when at the big bang menu.
