Just a silly question.

When you rebanged did you select to have the ferrengal "run internally?"

If not, (and I'm new to Gold so you guys stop me if I'm way off, cuz I want to learn this stuff too). If you didn't select for the ferrengi to run internally (which you probably shouldn't select if you are going to go with Gold mode and create your own active alien races), without "run internally" selected for ferrengi, you probably have to activate the Ferrengi from the Edit Alien Races option (Gold Edits). Now, that can be tricky, because there are very complicated regeneration formulas in those edits that I won't even touch!

I think, though, by going to the Alien Races Edit, selecting the Ferrengi Race, and setting them to be full power in say 30 to 60 days (rather than the 120 days that is default), you might see them upgrading themselves a lot quicker. Also, make sure in the final option (5 or 6) it says YES next to "active."

One more thing, I was told a long time ago that the ferrengi regenerate based on the number of fighters they already possess in the home sector. Don't know if that's how it still works. Used to be, if you destroyed all the fighters in the home sector the Ferrengi stopped completely and it was all over.

If I were you, and you're concerned about people taking over Ferrengi too soon, beef it all up! Beef up planet 2 AND planet 3 when the Ferrengi create it. Beef up the Ferrengi sector with figs, etc. Or set it so that they are FULL STRENGTH in like 5 days, but that could make the Ferrengi so powerful the players won't be able to move in there without getting shot at :)

Ah well, anything I've said in this post that is wrong, I truly apologize. I'm sure I'll get my butt reamed for it by someone, so...

Has "Extern" been running..

Extern places (regens) the figs in the sector based on the age of game (in days)

If it's inteneral ferrengi, I don't htink they'll ever upgrade the planet itself, but I'm not certain on this.

I believe you're right, I've never seen the Ferrengi upgrade a planet under internal Ferrengi. The ability to upgrade planets is only a part of the AI module, and internal Ferregi is how the game USED to manage Ferrengi before the AI module was installed. At least that's what I always thought, might be wrong.

The question remains, if I do NOT select internal Ferrengi, but chose to activate the Gold Alien Race Edits instead and activate the Ferrengi in that manner, will the Ferrengi simply act just like the Alien Races that I create, in that they keep right on regenerating even when you take out all the Ferrengi fighters in the Ferrengi sector, and will they seek to reclaim Ferrengal when it is captured, like the other Alien Races? I've noticed that the game generates TWO Ferrengal, planet 2 and planet 3. You can capture planet 2 and the Ferrengal don't care, it's yours. Capture planet 3 and they will come after it (or so I'm told, I've never seen the Ferrengi try to recapture ANY planet, I'm just being told by other gamers that they do). What's the take on that one?

Well I have seen the Gold Version (not the internal) try and recapture the planet. But most games like that have invincible Ferrengal on.

All invincible Ferrengal means is that you cannot destroy it, it has noting to do with capturing it.
