Here are some ideas that I sent to JP that I would like to see implemented in a furture version of TW. Just thought that I would share!
1.) I think that implementing Planatary Cloaking Devices would be very cool, and would help make games that would last longer. It could be a feature that could be turned ON/OFF in Tedit by the sysop, maybe have it be another level of Citadel construction. With this players could either pay like $250K for the feature each time they used it or else it could run off of products on the planet. Just a thought but I think that this would be WELL received by the players of TW...(great game by the way, loved it in my BBS days and I'm very happy that you have purchased it and continued with it)
2.) Also, it would be nice to have the ability to build Defensive Platforms around your planet, sort of like the Golan Defense Platforms used in the Star Wars Universe. You could have fighters set to Defensive or to Offensive, maybe some set to both. Also the platforms could have the option of having a Quazar Cannon on board, power would be determined by the amount of fuel ore on hand and you could also have the option of having it shipped automatically up from the planet (% per day) Also another feature could be a repair dock on the platform, where you ship was repaired slowly, al little each day! (for a small cost)
3.) Another ideas would be to have the option of turning on "Fleets" (ON/OFF) feature for the sysop. Where you could have...say up to 5 ships in a Fleet! Set to either Defense or Offense, and of course if you moved the whole fleet throughout the Universe the turn rate would have to be HIGH! One thing with this is that you would only be able to have a set number of a particular ship in the Fleet! (this would probably require the implementation of several new ship classes, Frigates, Corvettes style ships (aka Star Wars), Fighter Transports etc.)

This isn't smack talk, so I can't say what I'm really thinking, but lemme just say that I'd like to see the current feature set stable and bug free. Anything else after that would be gravy... though I sort of like the idea of being able to control my unmanned ships in some way.

Well he emailed me back, told me he liked the ideas, but that they would be more likely to show up in TWv4 and not the current version.
"ok..so what do you mean by "Hello Planet Mothing"

The best way right now for "cloaking" a planet is write a script that when a player hits a fig that is say 2 hops away from you planet then the planet is automatically moved to a specified sector....Only thing is you would have to have a pretty good grid

You can say it, your post just might get removed!. (without notice too)
I guess a sheilded cloak'd planet would really rock tho.. I mean
Photons cant touch it, so it cant decloak, You cant see it so you cant land... Nice feature ;P

Seems since a planet is 500 density then if it is cloaked it should have a minimum density scan of 1000 to make it a bit fair. It would also seem that a cloaked planet could not have any use of Q cannon or military response settings. That would follow in the same logic that cloaked players can't respond while they are cloaked. Of course that would leave a cloaked planet in the vulnerable position of being in an overloaded sector and then you just toss the dice and take your chances! [:D]

I have another idea/suggestion, make two versions of Tradewars:
#1 Classic Tradewars, made to be stable and sticks to the classic formula. The goal here is to stay true to the original and make it as bug free as possible.
#2 Mega Tradewars, made to be enhanced and bring about new ideas to make the game better. Would require different registration codes than TWGS. Put all the new and radical ideas into this game.

Well this is basically what JP was saying in his email. He wants to get TWv3 stable (Classic TW), and then create TWv4 with a totally different game engine, and lots of new and enhanced features. He said it would still run from the TWGS but would be a totally different game, he's working on the engine now, but putting more time at the moment into TWv3 to make it totally stable.

Planet cloaking that sounds nice, but i was more interested in the defensive platforms. I think that if they could make it to where if you build a port you can up grade it just as we do planets with shields, cannons, figs the whole works. Sept interdictor, and warp ability. This way you can actually have three lines of defense to every sector you own or command i.e. your offensive, defensive,or toll figs.Mines limpets and armid. Then your Star port fully upgraded Then your cloaked planet. Have planet like old Bird of Prey it can't use its defenses sept shields unless uncloaked.
Suddenly you hear a faint metallic click on the side of you haul....
