Ok, all issues with sysops playing their own games aside, how do I get access to tedit while in game?

I don't have a fixed ip address so I am having a friend host my game for me, unfortunatly he is 1200 miles from me so I can't go to his house to access stuff and properly admin the game. Now, I understand telnetting into a different port to access it through TWGS, but I know I remember being able to access it in game.

After some searching here I figured that the "$" is the access to the sysop menu (confirmation of this?), but while testing it locally I can't seem to get it to let me in even though I am flagged as a sysop. Now, the best guess I can make is that since I am running it w/o a bbs there is no drop file to tell TW what my security level is. Is there any TWGS way around this? or do I have to break down and make him put up bbs software too?

Also, regarding remote admin of the TWGS, going into it on the admin port does that give me access to set up a new game within the server or just to tedit for the various games? I want to bug my host as little as possible when it comes to rebanging or setting up new games.

TIA

remotely: you can not bang new games. (thats the sysop there at the server)
from in the game: no you cant enter tedit. (or else im really out of the loop!)
only way is by the admin port and you can only do what you see [:D]

If you are in a game session, there is no way to enter tedit for the game. You have to connect seperately to the remote admin port and acces tedit that way. You can modify edits/settings in a game that way, and using the * stuff, you can cycle the server, spy nodes, stuff like that. You can not, however, bang a new game, that has to be physically done on the machine (or through a remote desktop management software like VNC).

I could swear there used to be a way to get into tedit from inside the game. I guess it has been nearly ten years since I did this on a regular basis, but I could swear I remember direct tedit access while "playing." <shrug> I guess I could have just had it as a seperate "door" on the same menu with the games.

Thanks.

Most likely you logged into the admin port and then went into the game. (going from tedit to tradewars on the main menu once you log on the admin port, I think its $ )

Correct me if I'm wrong, but under general editor 2 (h) there are settings for local tedit access which are normally off, but if these were turned on, / would give you global tedit access and $ would give local tedit access.

Most sysops would have these turned off so nobody could just go in and edit as they please.
