This is a trivial problem, compared to some. While edit ship names,
I found I was unable to generate a ~ character in the name. I have
not found any other keys that do not work. Is this normal, or is the
tilde a reserved key? ( Or maybe just my fat fingers )

It's no big problem, I'm just curious about it.

I don't believe the game in general recognizes a tilde, even on comms in game. For one reason or another, that's just how it was designed.

Do you know of any other keys that "won't work". Again, just being
curious. [:)]

Most extended ascii characters are non-responsive. As to normal keyboard characters, I can't think of any right off hand.

They need to be, some characters like the pipe "|" can be used to create exploits. I recall some BBS users using that to pipe out a shell to command.com or some other program to get control of a BBS using pkzip or some other DOS program like the external protocols. Most BBS programs have fixed this and filter out those type of characters from filename entries, etc. Therefore, I think it is a good security measure to filter out characters like that and keep it to letters and numbers and normal ASCII characters.
