I did a little bit of advertising on HardOCP.com. The site is a huge hardware site and a personal favorite of mine for several years now. The site has a huge userbase of hardcore gamers. I'm hoping that there will be some new and new-old blood that'll come this way. :)

I never have tried to. However, if you notice, everyone on teamEIS uses their real name on here, hence the reason I do as well.

Did your advertisement over there bring anyone new in?

Something I have noticed is that once a TW Player always a TW player. A lot of players that I thought where new actually played back in the BBS days. Not every TW player from the BBS days, but enough of them to see a pattern. Some, like my brother, quit TW and went to Meridian 59, Everquest, Diablo II, etc. I guess that is why people suggest a GUI interface for TW, etc. :)

Trying to spread the word of TW to people that have never played it before is a hard sell. Unlike modern games, there are no 3D graphics and special sound effects. You may be able to get some people away from the Internet MUDS that are text based and into TWGS, but what is in it for the GameHeads that play 3D games? Then the TWGS games get rebanged and they lose all they built up, unlike Everquest that keeps their stuff and they keep building up levels for years. Their Guild Members will always be there, sharing resources and fighting together like a TW PermaCorp.

Then there are those newbies that try it, get SDed by a TW Expert, and then quit playing the game out of fustration. In most 3D games there is protection for newbies from other players until they reach a certain level. Sort of like having a Gaurdian Angel until you reach level 5, etc. Newbies are protected from pkillers in Everquest, Medidian 59, etc.

A suggestion to the game would be to put a kill-lock on the game for X days to enable a truce of sorts. Zyrian enforces the truce and warns players that there is a truce in the game until a certian date. The GameOp can set the days of the truce in Tedit. Basing the newbie protection on exp would get it abused by experts who know how to keep their exp below a certain level. Again just a suggestion to help out the newbies.

I have spread the word to others, who have called me an idiot for playing a legacy BBS game in text mode when 3D games are available. Like I said, it is a hard sell. I'd bet I could pod any one of those jerks should they choose to attempt to play. ;)

One, that I know of for sure, and probably more. I've been watching EIS's who's online, and there's been quite a few visitors (ppl not signed up for an account). The one I know of went over to Entropy's game A. There's a 5 days truce there and should be a good place for him/her to get started :)

There have been several new users to the forums in the past week, probably about 1-2/day.

Well there is already a newbie fail safe in the game. stay under 1000 experience and stay in fed space. When the game was made, this was thought good enuff to get the idea of game play, ie mechanics of how the game works. But people today have what I call the fast food mentality. I want it all and i want it now. Quake takes some one like me about 10 min to figure out the mechanics of it. TW2002 takes a little longer. I constantly hear the *****ing noobs get killed and quit. Well its part of the game. they have to learn to deal with it if they want to play. I consider Doc Who one of the top ten players in the Game, I read what he said, I get killed too, How can this be?
He is one of the L33ts. Well all of the l33ts die just like the noobs. Part of the game.

The game is going to die because of Killing noobs, super scripters, change in the way the game is played, dupers, cheating sysops, too many perma corps, not enuff perma corps, not long enuff truces, truces too long, too many bugs, too slow to fix bugs, too slow on game updates,etc...........naw probly not.
tradewars is too addictive to those who are drawn to a game of this type.

When the game first came out the problems were, some noobs left discouraged when killed so easy, some people got an advantage by using macros(dam cheaters heh),some players duped, people figured out to mega corp, learned to use bugs in the game,( some were so well loved became permanent part of the game,ie mega-rob{some places still call it cheating})updates and bug fixes were slo and sometimes made worse.

And yet this text based game of the future TW2002, in 2004 is still here. Can things be done to make it better, sure.

Are things being done to make it better? Yes.

positive things i have noticed.
1. lots of places to play.
2. the forums give fast feed back and exchange of ideas.
3. players willing to teach some one who will listen.
4. sysops and others with new and fun ideas for games.
5. scripts and helpers, free or low cost, so everyone has a chance.
6. lost of info available, to learn and increase your skill and knowledge.

TW2002 attracts players that like straegy, and although may enjoy 3d effects, do not need it to enjoy the game.

I dont see the sky falling, can things be done better, always as in all things. but i think things are not as bleak as some may think.
just my thoughts, remember its a game have fun.
