So, here an idea for all the scripting Gods out there.

Since, on the server side, we only have so much control over gold aliens. Nonpserv only goes so far. How about an alien script for the front end?

For example:

Let's use a Borgalike

Create a player named "Borg Scout" and a planet named "Cube" then write a script to: Log on after extern, scout for a dead end, trade, do planet maintainence, whatever. Then T-Warp the planet to the dead end sector, set sector q-cannon then log off.

I think It would add an interesting twist to the game, not to mention extra danger.

I suppose you could write a tedit script to do something like that as well, The downside to that is your players don't get the chance to kill the scout, and thus keep the planet fom moving.

Either way, its too big a project for a novice scripter. (like me)

So, do ya think it'll fly?

It's not an impossible script to make, just most people who are any good at scripting view any sort of alien as pointless.

If I knew the DAT formats, I could write a VB program to run in the background and modify data to move plants, plant aliens, etc. Problem is that the files are in use and I get an sharing violation when I open them beause the game has them in use.

I really need to learn a scripting language to access TEDIT and change the values there. :)

Heh CK, what if the aliens ran a bad Butt gridder, etc? Heh. That'd mess with some people and be irritating at least... (Bad LOTR flashbacks...).
