I am making a new planet and would like to make it so it belongs to a custom race. But when I edit the planet and select the owner, I only get the default races. These races are no longer even in the game (Feds are called something else, so is the Ferrengi, rogue mercenaries and the aliens too), but here they are in the list. The only options I have are as follows: <1> Player <2> Corporation <3> Federation <4> Rogue Mercenary <5> Pirate <6> Ferrengi <7> Alien <8> Abandoned The question is: How do I change this list? Or even add to it? |

The trick is not in the planets themselves, you have to edit the alien race to use that particular planet. Look in the alien editor and change their homeworld planet to that particular one. Also you cannot create a planet and assign it to an existing Gold Alien race, I have brought up this problem before and it would make it nice to be able to do that. You can do it with fighters and mines in a sector but not planets. Once the planet is assigned to a race it will spawn the first time you start the server, then you can edit the planet, just dont screw up and change its ownership. Check out my post under Gold Alien Homeworlds under this same forum section, I just posted in it again today. |

Actually, Shorty, you CAN create a planet and assign it to an existing Gold Alien Race. I've done it with the Ferrengi. I got tired of them having a crappy earth type so I made them a proper homeworld then assigned that homeworld to them using the alien editor, #4 Resources D Planet then put that planet there. I just go in after the game is banged to make sure there are critters and resources on it before opening the game. That's what I'd like to see fixed in the next version. Planets that stay populated the way you want them without having to go into tedit to do it. |

I think you need to read that post again, I said you can assign, through the alien editor, their planet. You cannot just create a planet and assign it to a Gold Alien. That is the problem I was talking about, you dont have an option to assign a planet to a Gold Alien, only the internal stock aliens. |

Ahh, yes, I see that. Think it's time for some new specs. |

I would caution against using the gold aliens (especially with a homeworld.) I tried creating a game with them and they really didn't add much to the game. They end up either draining fuel ore from player planets constantly, running ports down, clearing grids, etc. and even if you take over their planet, they simply keep re-spawning and mothing over and over again. You also can't destroy a gold alien's planet in-game. In my tests I spent about 90K figs (early in the game) to take over the planet. After the 2nd day of holding the planet and having an full log of Alien #355 was destroyed by a quasar cannon, I jettisoned off all the colonists and tried to ZDY the planet about 10 times -- each time it said the colonists defused the bomb (even though there weren't any colos there.) I might try again sometime in the future with no gold alien planets at all and a max of 1 or 2 aliens per race... and then maybe just make their ships unique and worth capturing. BTW, does anyone have any gold alien settings they have tested and think makes for a fun game for the players? Because so far, my tests haven't been too successful. |

I would also like to know how the gold alien settings work. I am working on game edits and I do not want the aliens to get too powerful or too weak. |

In my not so humble opinion, Gold Aliens are totally worthless. What makes TW fun is the competition and interaction between players. Aliens add nothing to the game, save for a bit of unwelcome random interference. |

Actually what the Gold Aliens add is the ability to give them unique ships that only they have and if you want one you have to find it and cap it, I make some ships in some games only available by capture. Its also nice to have special alien planets that arent available with a gen torp. The other thing they add is the ability to assist weaker or less experienced players by clearing paths through someones fighter grid. This also makes it difficult for people to run afk with attack scripts running 24/7, they will be killing a lot of aliens that way. Granted the aliens are pretty stupid and lame when it comes to attacking, defending, being a force in the game, but they do have their purpose if someone knows how and uses their immagination. In the long run they can be useful and fun for all but those that are on the opposite side of the benefits. |

Aliens add nothing to the game, save for a bit of unwelcome random interference. I for one do think Aliens are part of the game. Or they would not have been put in [:D] Some sysop's prefer not having them , due mostly because of the larger twmail.dat file they can produce. Also they do mess up players grids and make it that much harder for those scripters writing Attack scripts because those scripts would require a list of aliens to ignore to be sucessful. And for that reason , I think games should have them or its just a game of Player v.s. Player. Don't get me wrong , I like those types of games as well , but I'de never go so far as to say That is the only games to run For those that prefer no aliens in games , I'm sure you can find a server that likes it that way too .. So bring your best scripts cause I'm sure You will be playing against another script. Another side note Aliens and tedit can cause twmail.dat to become over 1meg in size. This is usally called currupt data And can be fixed by shutting server down and deleting this file. Best way to avoid this is to not tedit while server is active. One more side note : In the Desert Storm edit , the best ship in game is an alien ship. So be sure to check Vid Kid/CareTakers edits , those alien ships are good ships. Remove these and you have just another edit [:D] Vid's World on Guam http://geocities.com/videotees/twars.html telnet://vidsworld.no-ip.org:2002 http://vidkid.coastgames.com/index.php <--- Register & Request Games http://geocities.com/videotees/hintstips.html <-- Vid's Hints and Tips |
