Who out there has ever been in a game when coms stop working, you stop
receiving messages, and you dont see when other players are warping in and
out of the sector (ect ect)..
Some of us know that this is caused by a time deviation between the players clocks..
ie
player1's clock is 1 min slower than player2's clock so interaction between them isnt possible..
I want to know What boards this has been seen on..
Dont include dailight savings or the such.. I am really looking for places where you might have seen it at least once a month (by someone/anyone) ..
To the ops, If players complain of this and it does happen on your systems then can you include your OS
Just the type of OS
ie Windows 2003, Windows XP, Whatever..
And also say if you DO or DONT run something to syncronize your time..
This is just a General question put out to everyone.. It's not to slag a board.. It's a known problem and I know that Alienbase and at3000 both have this problem from time to time.. I would guess it's more widespread but I want input please
Regards

I use to have a problem where if I toggled silence all messages on and off the game would stop sending me inactivity messages.
I remember it happening on at least 2 servers, and I asked about it in the forum at the time but no one had an anwser.
Now I believe the silence all messages was the cause, but I'm not positive...

Logging in and out has cured it for me at times. It came up over on at3000 for me recently. Not sure of the cause/solution though.

3 sites that I have seen it on. Game BBS (2003), Alienbase, and Imperial Outpost. I know that Major Pain is running XP, cause there was that long post about it. Also if you look those are busy boards. So more people would have noticed it. Or it could be a problem with higher number of people causes problem more frequent.

I've had this problem occur for me, and ironically it was also at at3000 , in fact it was in the game i was in against you just recently doctor. Really rather annoying when your trying to run a combo sdt-multi-run/furber combo , and all the sudden you get no msgs anymore. At first i thought it was my problem, and checked hails options, silence msgs option, etc etc. Then I was like hmm, maybe everyone just went afk for some odd reason. But after sending several msgs on subcomm asking why no on was replying to me, my corpies told me on icq they indeed were , but i couldn't see the messages.

yup- you know I have had this problem too- it was in a game with you doc- and on more then one occasion. you stop receiving messages. and what is funny- you can hit computer- mail and see fig hits and the time stamp and wonder why you didn't see it a few min back,...its very odd. relogging does seem to cure it once you realize its in effect.

I recently had this problem in the Zulu Game at Alienbase, (last bang), same thing you describe 12oz. I didn't get any incoming fighter reports at any point since Day 2, despite trying everything in the book to reset myself vis a vis the server. I played the entire game without messages, although I could see FedComm and SS just fine. As far as i know, the only messages I didn't get were the fig reports, and the Fed reports at extern when the Feds wiped out our MSL grid, but when i read my ship messages, the whole message would be there.
Bizarre, and VERY limiting.
RiverRat tried everything he could think of to get me fixed, too, including a whole server reboot, to no avail. Now THIS game, i'm fine, so far....

a server reboot will fix the problem, I think I shoulda been a bit more to the point in asking for "info" back from players&ops regarding the servers that do it. I have a list of a few servers but it seems that the MAIN problem comes down to server load, the more it's loaded seems to be the more this problem happens (that's why I think we see it on alienbase so much). Yesterday with us in game it was nearly a massive 5 mins difference and that could have a horrible impact on the game. If I was to rate this as a bug then I would consider it in the top 5 bugs that I have ever seen.
