I am about ready to put up a twgs and was wondering what OS would work the best? Windows 2000, Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP, Windows 98?
Thanks,
berenger

Any of those will work just fine. I say go with Windows XP since its the latest from Micro$oft. Windows 2000 and Win98 are all loosing support from Micro$oft in the next year so why not get something you will have support of if you are looking for an OS to start with.

There are no distant plans to evolve further from the XP model, however if resources are an issue or you simply worry about it. Go with a Windows 2000 model. The XP is recieving the same support and handling instructions as the 2000 being as its running on the same structure. Operating a TWGS there isn't a need for the glamor and brushed look that the XP is offering, so why not save the system stress for when you have a full house on-line.
The main focus of the Windows family is being put into the latest 64-bit models for Itanium systems and making XP more appealing for use with 3rd party companies. Ie-Media Center & Tablet Editions.
Win2000 offers the stability that XP offers without risk of conflicts. 98 and 95 are much too unstable. Even with it configured as a Server, requires manual reset far too often. Where as the 2000 (Professional/Server) were mainly designed for businesses that require the promise/security. The XP is basicly a more user friendly skin for the 2000 or a fresh set of new threads if you prefer. [8D]
Regardless of your choice of OS, write back...let us know what you decided with and how its going for ya.

I personally prefer XP Pro, I ran for an entire year without having to do a restart (excluding various updates frome Microsoft). The only flaw until SP1 was an occasional disappearance of the TWGS control panel while the server was active. It didn't effect game play but when I wanted to edit I has to reinstall TWGS. But all that is fixed (if you have a legal copy).
Good Luck
