My BBS computer was working pretty well since last May, but had no users on TWGS. Recently, we opened up Holodeck One to the public. When that happened, the TWGS server started to get actual traffic. Unfortunately, it seems like it may be causing many freezes on the computer. The entire machine locks up ~ no UI, etc. The only diagnosis I've been able to do so far was when it locked up once while I was in taskmgr. The non-player server pieces of TWGS were taking up 90%+ of my CPU just before the lockup. Its sketchy at best, but the only lead I have. I'm on the latest public version of TWGS. It is running as a service on Windows 2000. The machine is a Dual PIII 1Ghz with 1 Gig of Ram. I'm not 100% sure it is TWGS, but if this problem rings a bell to anyone, I'd be happy to hear what could be done to resolve it. At this point, the computer locks up about 3 times a day. Not sure if it has to do with a user doing something in particular, or just the amount of time spent running. I'm not discounting any hardware related issues, but they seem unlikely since I haven't changed out any hardware since May. Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide, Drakmir Sysop of Holodeck One |

I haven't ever heard of TWGS causing system lockups. That isn't to say that it isn't causing it on your system, just that I have never heard of it causing that to happen. |

I use to have this issue with NOTORIOUS awhile ago, it seemed that if I turned off, or just decreased the amount of aliens, that it would run alot smoother.... my guess is, too many aliens. graz |

My CPU went through the roof when I added a game that had a ton of aliens, and I was running it on a 3.2 Gig system. If you limit aliens to a minimum, the only time your CPU will go crazy is if a few players are running scripts like mad. |

It was a false alarm. Basically, the computer was overheating. Replaced the motherboard / chip and everything seems to be running better now. Thanks everyone! Drakmir Sysop of Holodeck One |
