Hello folks,
I am not new to Tradewars, having had the TWGS/TWv3 for several years in fact but doing little with it.
So here are the questions I have for the lot of you...
A: would it work better to have a hosting service to run the server or to host it myself.
>Win xp pro, P4 3.0 ghz, 2 gig ram, 160 gb hdd, (should have cable broadband soon)
B: how to go about advertiseing for it once it is up and running.
C: what settings seem to work best for player enjoyment in both server versions.

Games without delays (ship, eprobe, rob) and a mix of turn settings. A lot of people prefer unlims, but there are also people that like medium (1k-3k) and low (500-800) turn games.
Universe sizes for unlims are generally 20k sectors and the low turn games 5k sectors depending on the number of players you expect.
The easiest way is to download some .twa files to start with - sub zero seems popular in unlims, starwars (think there may be several versions) and others.

Your system should run the TWGS fine in general. It depends on what you're wanting from your server though, too. If you want one of the high end super popular servers, you'll probably want to run the software on a pretty much dedicated box. That way you don't have to worry about other applications affecting the performance of your TWGS. As to advertising, the best way is to just post game rebangs in the game rebang forum and add your server to the TWGS Search at http://www.thestardock.com/

get ahold of vader or river rat, they seem to have prospered for some time , they'll be able to give you alot of good advice for running a good server.
