What the person being attacked will see is "Kemper3 is powering up weapons systems" then after whatever the delay is for that particular ship, you'll be hit by a fighter wave. If you can xport out, port, fire back, whatever in that delay, you can. Keep in mind that if two players are in the same ship, by the time you see the powering up weapons systems, if you try to fire back at them, you will take the first hit.

What he is trying to say is if your both in the same ship type, therefore the delay would be equal between the two ships. Then by time you see the messages that your being attacked you are already going to get hit. You dont have the ship delay to help you because they are equal.

Well, if you try to attack back, you will be hit. If you do something that doesn't have a delay involved (land on a planet, land on SD, port, xport out) you can probably avoid getting hit, depending on the delay involved in their attack and your response time.

Getting baxck to the whole point of this post, could it have been a mail problem. Could the mail file being corrupt cause the problem. I think I may be on to something. So Brian has 5000 aliens in the game we had 16789 sectors marked with figs, 5 people on our corp we are all getting about 10 messages a second, with that being the case when we entered the sector he would have recieved a message saying we entered we actually got 1 attack off onto his figs before the game would kick everyone, that is another message and he was busy talking on fed com. Now the fed com would not be stored in the mail file, but the other 2 messages would have been. Could this mabey be the problem ohhh great Harley.

certainly if there is a mail file problem, whenever something tries to get recorded (such as a fig hit), it could quite concievably boot you from the game.

There we go that is the most believable explination I have heard. Brian did you happen to check the mail file before you banged the game? It is too late now but if the mail file was huge, which it was and got corrupted then it could cause it.

Its not too late now, just stop the server long enough to delete it for that game.

quote:
The attacker did a macro that was like "Send ANSI moon.ans UserID" and then attacked the player. The attacked player would see the ANSI moon and could not type anything and then saw the "Grunthar attacked you for 45 damage..." messages after the screen displayed and then all of a sudden before they could type, "Grunthar just killed you..." and they were in the underworld or whatever. I suppose the same thing can be done with one corp member sending private messages to the victim using bursting in TWX for 20 one line messages or more?
This is sort of along the lines of what I was investigating.
I can't go into details as to what I've discovered, (of course)
I honestly think several factors came into play in this scenario. Macro bombing, coupled with an upgrade without rebang, coupled with a drop in the delay from Tedit, and other factors. I dare not say any more.
The bottom line here is that I was unable to duplicate this EXACT problem, therefore, it MUST have been an isolated incident (hopefully). If anyone does discover a bug like this for sure, I don't want to know, I'll just read the "fix" docs on the latest versions to find out.
