OK Solington, the thing is that you never once mentioned ship delay in your original post. Perhaps it was simply an oversight, but time limits were mentioned and ship delays were not.

quote:Personally, I am a fan of time-based games. Especially if you change the turn-to-time ratio to at least .75sec/Turn

This has the effect of making all the standard ship designs having various uses, rather than the player just finding that ONE ship that has the best turn to hold ratio (Like the ISS or CorpFl or something)

What I was pointing out is that time based games do NOT have the effect of making the standard ship designs have various uses, ship delay does. I'll chalk it up to a simple misunderstanding. Anyone who reads these forums regularly knows that I type faster than I think and sometimes things come out wrong [;)]

Hereby it is manifest, that during the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called war; and such a war, as is of every man, against every man. For WAR, consisteth not in battle only, or the act of fighting; but in a tract of time, wherein the will to contend by battle is sufficiently known.

I've always been a fan of time limit games and the games I've banged reflect that. But a good sysop will listen to what his players would like and bang accordingly. To that end, I now have turn based games alongside my time limit games.

quote:Suggestion for low turn game: 1.5K turns/10K sectors/high port density/6 hour time limit/MBBS (Gold or otherwise/5 per corp/no starting products on planets (or some fuel and nothing else/faster citadel develop time/active Ferrengal. Just my 2 cents input.

Now this is a game that I would play!

Hmmm...turns AND time limit? Think people would actually play something like that?

River Rat has a regular Call to Battle game on alienbase that is both time and turn limited, generally has a pretty good draw.

All depends on the mood of people. Time limited it a draw to some and a turn off to others. I play time limited more these days, since I only play at most 8 hours a day.

Yeah that is true listen to the players then do what you have to. Some players will and have taken advantage of Sysops trying to make a game for them. I have seen some whine about turns in either direction. You cant please everyone and some will get pissed off cause you did use "thier" ideas as they wanted you too.
I feel my games will reflect what players want but not to the extent of being taken advantage of. Like no time limit, the ones that want that stay logged on 24/7 waiting for someone to hit a fig and a robot warps a planet in and kills the unsupecting player. Most of the time it is a new player who dont have much of anything that takes the fall.
As I see games played and how some people play I see them getting the game set up for thier scripts/macros/life. I like to set up a game for new player or players that do not use scripts as an attack weapon.
Also if a game is banged with a theme in mind the players should use names that reflect the theme. eg, Pirate theme shouldn't have name like Alien killer. That sort of thing. I think as sysops that we want people to play on our servers and we try to acomidate acordingly for players. Sometimes people will like that and others will hate that.
time/turn based is the way to go anymore as I see it. There are players with nothing in life but TW and they will take advantage.
Remember this. You as sysop bought the server and game. These people are guests in your house and should act like it. Yes I invited them but act like an Butt and I will kick thier Butt out. Going to extremes to please people does not work. So just make what YOU as sysop feels is right and not what some player demands.
And if some player does not like it, there are other places to play.
