 Problem With Channels(Fed,SubSpace,Hailing)

To start off I do not run 100 nodes. I only have 6 open at this time as I probably do not understand all the aspects of nodes and bandwidth usage.I am willing to open more nodes if they will not affect the other users on the network. Would like more input on this. Like I said somewhere in these posts I am new at setting up a server for the public to use. As I post and get responces I learn. Learning is the key here. Maybe I am just a "noob"to having a server, I have had the server regged now for about 4 years, just never put it up, but I do want the server to be a good one and will take all input in consideration.

Now that someone has explained and not complained, I do understand a bit better.

As far as the time limit thing. I guess I am old school and feel that while you play a game you should be there and not off in lala land letting scripts play for you.
Tell you what tho, since it is the POPULAR thing to do, I will not enforce anykind of time limit. There you happy? HUH ARE YOU!!!!!!?????

Well, I would try banging another version of it, and see what happens. Personally, it sounds like something got corrupted and should be rebanged.

Did you ever try my suggestion? You didn't say if you did or not. I've seen this problem before, and restarting the server fixed it for me.

I don't mind time limits I just don't like the idea of being dropped because my connect is idle as a mater of fact I’m playing a time limit game right now very old school style 30 min. online time 250 turns 3k universe.

Yes! Now the comms are working. Thanks everyone. I don't know what fixed it, but I did restart server several times.

Before re-booting your system , export game and send to J.P.
with a note of what you have noticed.
Then check all your game folders for TWMAIL.DAT
if its > 1 meg .. delete it (requires server to be offline)
(normally clears most problems).
Then Re-bang game .. let us know if it fixes it ..

As far as time limit games .. scripters can be more creative
and play at main menu and watch players at nodes.
A sysop disconnecting me because of this , isn't letting
players play their time or turns .. so why run the server ?

I love this game & want to get my hands on the alien AI [:)]

Ahh, but Vid, sitting at menu isn't taking up anything but a node. Personally I think you look like a vulture waiting for his dinner but that's just my opinion <laughing>

I'm all for time limits. The most frustrating game I ever played was against a guy who was always at keys... literally. I tried invading at 8 PM... at keys. I tried at 3 AM... at keys. I tried at 6 AM... at keys. I tried at noon... you guessed it, at keys. I think that one hour per 500 turns is plenty of time... and us married men should be limited to 30 mins per day anyways :)

So I encourage you to implement a reasonable time limit, however you define "reasonable." Just make it clear up front, and follow your own posted rules in the same manner that you expect players to. Any use of TEdit for non-posted reasons will get you black-balled, so be clear on the rules before the game bangs, and make no rule changes while a game is active. If you open it and find a glaring oversight... (like in USO last year) you should still let the cards fall where they may.

And Speed Demon, that 250 turn, 30 minute game by Slim is a blast, and really causes you to focus on Turn Management... almost a lost skill these days.

Elder, I'm having loads of fun in that game brings me back to the old days. I would love to see more games configured like that unfortunately I don’t think many people like to play stock settings of that type anymore. :(
It could be a lot better with a few more active players.

I can see your point EP, and I'm sure my wife would agree. I'm not sure I do though. The way I see it, any fool can grid or invade when no one else is in game. I think it takes more skill to grid while an opponent is online and gunning for you, same for invasions and kills. Thats what turns the game into a player vs player competition, instead of a player vs Q cannons game.

Time limit games were set up for specific reasons and have been discussed both here in various forums and also at TWFORUM.... First response from script kiddies who wanted to take advantage at sitting in enter menu and watch who went into the game was build a quick enter macro/script to go in as soon as anyone entered the game thus circumventing the intention of time limits. The response from JP and the development team seemed to be building in a time penalty code for quick exit/enter where you lose 5 minutes of your time. That might nave been a response to another issue though where settings were turned off showing anyone except your corpies in game and they wanted to just duck out at set intervals to see who was in games. So someone tell me where I can find a server allowing me to sit at enter menu without getting bumped after about a minute? [:D]

J/K Bethel, your server your rules, but think about what all the other players and sysops are saying, they all are trying to guide you in a direction to help you have a better server.
