Actually, it can accommodate both. Say you enjoy the social aspect of chatting it up with other players on fed com, but don't care for the 1-1 pvp combat. You can set the game up to be muliti-player for a few hours in the evening when most people play, and single player for the rest of the night and day. It's very flexible this way.
Interesting setup, thanks for the pointer.

mrdon, do you have a server running now? Or if you interested in this set-up I can bang a game with these settings.
I'm looking at doing something a bit different. My son (ok, me too) is really into Minecraft, and rather than the hassle of hosting my own server, I discovered Minefold, which lets users create as many games as they want and share with friends. It completely changes the model of game hosting and the more I think about it, it'd be perfect for Tradewars where starting at the same time is important.
I'm hoping to transform the prototype I have of an HTML 5 client + TW 3.09 + dosemu to a web-based platform where players can create as many games as they'd like and share them with others without any of the hassles of hosting. We'll see how far I get
