Just installed latest (registered) Tradewars Server and the Tools package on my Windows 2000 machine and for some reason when I try and go to the Command Center -> Editors the window opens up, hangs for 5-10 secs and closes.?. My XP runs fine.?. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to run a server on the 2000 box.

May have something to do with importing my game from original server. Rebuilt an XP machine and when I imported game it did exactly the same. Will try to re-export tonight.

ok. sigh.
I originally created this game in Tradewars 1.01.54 and on my main machine. I have added 10 new races to my universe. On my main machine everything runs fine. When I try an export (exporting choosing everything possible)to my other (XP now) machine which is running Tradewars 1.01.58 the editors in the command center stops functioning. The window opens up, hangs for 5 secs and closes. I have to uninstall/reinstall to get it going again. I've been looking around the forums and it seems no-one else has experienced this.
I tryed deleting all the files in the game dir before importing which I read on a forum post but it still acted the same after reimporting. Any idea's would be appreciated. I'd rather not have to recreate all the races from scratch. danka.

I am having this problem. When docbear said "proper directory settings within Tradewars" What did he mean?
I went from a win2Kpro machine to a win2Kpro machine. I was able to import a classic trade wars game and get the editor to come up with no problems....but the other ones I was hosting...when I import them, the editors screen does exactely what he describes. Hangs for 5-10 seconds and shuts down. This on all the imports I did for the .TWA's I created from machine 1. What is "proper directory settings within Tradewars" Aparantly I need to do the same thing.

I have had that occur a few times, I just removed the game and created a new one, problem solved on XPpro. I would think if is from .TWA files, are you sure you included all files needed within it, (i.e. checking all the needed file boxes.) As for Proper directory setting would the refer to similar to the path for each game, i.e. C:\Program Files\Epic Interactive Strategy\TWGS…
Here are a few links to assist in understaning .TWA files Exports/Imports:

Thank you for your quick response. You don't know how much I appreciate it.
What I did was exported my games as .twa and when I loaded TWGS on the new server, did the "import" and checked all the boxes. The editors window does what has been described. I know I have the path to the directories right, it defaults to it, doesn't it? I mean I don't have anything out side the TWGS directory. I just opened the config, created the game and then went into the command center and imported the .twa. Then I banged the games. The editors doesn't work. Then I started the server and went to the command center and clicked "Tradewars" and that window does the same thing...hangs for a few seconds and then shuts down.
I was able to import a classic game .twa and that works ok, I just can't get the other ones that I *know* work (cause I did it on the other machine and have been hosting successfully for months) to work. I'm not doing anything new or different from what I did the first time when I had this running on the other machine.
I even went to the original .zip file of the .twas I downloaded thinking that maybe something got corrupt on my export, but the original .twas I had used on the other machine don't work on the new machine either, and they both have the same identical operating system (win2kpro). I read the second link you sent earlier today, I'll try the first link. Thanks!!

Well I did an experiment. I created a classic game and banged it, it's game A. I did not import anything and it worked. Although I did enable the gold features at the bang screen, when I look at the settings after the bang it says gold features=false. So I don't know what's up with that. But at least the editors window worked.
I repeated this process. I created a game "spacelords" in the config window. Then I went to the command center and highligted it (just like I did with the first one) I enabled the gold features (had to enter the gold code just like the first one) so that I could have 20K sectors. Then banged it. I did not import *anything*. Game B does not work, the editors window hangs up for a few seconds and closes.
So, this is not a TWA import/export issue but something else.

Did you also install the gold tools installed and have you done a warm-boot lately? You should not have to reenter the codes each time, maybe a bad install occurred originally? Might, try an uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot; I find this method often works wonders, laff. [;)]

I don't know why it wouldn't work on fresh install, but what I ended up having to do is copy the entire TWGS file inside the main directory and paste it into the new directory on the new machine. Thank God I still had the original TWGS folder...as we are planning to give that machine to a friend (as a starter computer) and hadn't wiped the drive yet. Whew. So, if anyone out there is doing this, make a copy of the TWGS folder and treat it like GOLD!

While doing this was your PC connected to the Internet? I was wondering if it is unable to verify live for Gold access so it closes it down or if your new machine is blocking TWGS’s Internet access? I went back looking at the settings and am not seeing anything that is catching my eye, only thing I can think of is a corrupted DAT file being created that incorporates the Gold features within it; then I was wondering if you are loosing Gold feature access to the game and DAT file is containing the Gold features within it, perhaps it is error-leveling itself out. That is very, very weird I am stumped other then that.
