I was wondering how I can allow outside connections with a linksys router. I just registered the software, and am trying to get it set up. Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

You have to go into the Router Setup.
then go to Advanced (far right tab)
Then go to DMZ (tab near the middle)
figure out what port your network card is plugged into the router and put 100 (for port 1) 101 (for port 2) (and so on..) Put that 100 or 101 or whatever into that empty spot in the DMZ tab and press apply. (or OK) (whatever it is)
Thats all you gotta do but remember, that opens all the ports to your computer...
That's the easiest way, anyways...
if you need to know how to connect to the router, send me a PM and in 2 hours (when i get home) ill send you the link.

Thanks Heat,
I will give this a try. Not too worried about opening the ports, as this computer will solely be used as a TWGS. So, wiping it on occasion is acceptable. Thanks for answering so fast, hopefully I can get this taken care of without bothering you further.

Uh.. don't use the DMZ.. that forwards all port request to your comp and negates the Linksys as a firewall.. Instead, go to port forwarding, and select a range of 2002 to 2002, tcp, then the last octet of your IP - and check the enable button if I remember right. That is, of course, only if your twgs is set to respond to 2002.. if not, adjust the port forwarding accordingly.

Hi Wotok....Sorry guys.....still lost on the router setup. My linksys router has no program. I just reconfigured it and disabled internet security. I just can't seem to find the menus that heat was taling about. I tried the windows xp networking menu...but can't seem to find anything about control of the router (not in program files either.....which is where I would expect it to be).

Yes....that was it. I had Heat walk me to the menus, and it was a snap from there. Wotok, you were right, you just basically choose the port without compromising the firewall. Everyone, thanks a lot for helping me get set up. Going to make sure I put this forum in my favorites.

Does this work for all routers? I bought a USR router that has NO software of any kind that came with it or on its web page.

One of the features listed is "Web-based configuration utility." It should tell you in your manual how to go about setting it up.

Hey PHX,
All of them have similar basic's, but yours is not a linksys so that IP address that Sniper can go to may be different on yours. Actually, Sniper has a wireless router and i think he had to use a different IP (not sure). but if you check in your manual, all that should be included, along with your default user name and PW that you will need to log on. Linksys's default is no username, and PW admin.
if you cant figure it out, talk with me and ill research what you got and help you figure it out. (i got free time at work [;)] )
