I just set the delete to one day and ran extern in a 'dead' game. All the players who haven't logged in for the past 24 hours are now deleted. All the players who are #sd# are still #sd# and I (active) am still alive. Which is exactly what I expected.
The way it occured during the problem game was all players were alive and playing... and all of a sudden they all found themselves in sector zero with no name and no corp. It happened sequentially, not instantaneously. The same way it happens when you tedit-delete somebody. Has anyone seen problems with a one day delete setting?
--> Has anybody ever seen players get deleted while playing? <---

Extern is set to run at midnight, game opened 6 hours before that. This all occurred at approximately 12:05am

well its sounds like that u should have set the extern to run when u start the game eg.. I start a game at 12:00 a.m. right after extern was run therefor it recognizes that it has been a full day since any1 has played

Everyone is messing the point here.
CampusParty is taking about a player being deleted from a game while they are activily playing it.
ie You are currently running a PPT script in a game and then you find yourself in sector 0, with no ship, no name, no planets, no money, no assets of any kind and not part of a corp. And when you log out of the game and attempt to log back in. You have to start over.
This has nothing to do with extern, or the 1 day deletion. When extern runs, all players that have not played atleast once during the time period. Will be deleted all at the same time. Extern will not delete any player currently playing when it runs. I repeat, Extern will not delete any player that is currently in the game playing. Even with a 1 day deletion.
This has to do with someone being in TEDIT deleting every player in the game.
CampusParty,
I don't know how to stop this. As this is the first time someone has hacked TWGS. But, there is 1 log for the TWGS that you can check. And 2 logs for each game you can check. The TWGS log, twgs.log, is in the EIS\TWGS directory/folder. The game logs, twerr.log and twgame.log, are in each game directory/folder.
My suggestion is to look in the TWGS log and see if there is any kind of connection being made to TWGS throught the admin port. At about the time the player accounts start being deleted. Also look at the twerr.log and the twgame.log to see if there is anything in there. You might find that a connection logged in the twgs.log might belong to a player in one of your games.
If you do not have a twgs.log, then you need to turn on the generate log from the Configure - Settings. Place a check mark in the box and select append. If you leave it at new. Every time you shut down the TWGS and restart it. It will delete the old log and create a new one. If you have it as append. It will keep updating the same log. Even when shuting down and restarting the server. This is helpful in tracking users on your twgs. You can always shut down the server, backup the log. And then delete it's contents when ever you want.

CampusParty, or anyone else,
You can make you server even more secure by setting each and every game to have it's own admin password. This way a person has to know 2 passwords to log onto the server and to edit a single game.
By suggestion is to have each game to have their own unique password.
Another way is to place a router between your connection and your computer. Even a Software router is better then nothing.

Sorry Campus.... after getting to the bottom of this thread I didn't realize at the top you said this happened while playing. Had I noticed that part, I would not have thrown that idea in the wind, since I would have known it would come back and smack me in the head! [:)](ohhh, now I have a headache!)Hope It gets figured out! G'luck.
