Speed Demon,

I am in full agreement, there is no 100% way to stop automation of repetitive tasks or databasing of the universe. There are reasonable methods to neutralize noninteractive, automated kills scrips and their ilk. I hope that makes sense, and that is why I am using the term "high level" scripters to differentiate. These are not the people who shell out 25 bucks to simply automate haggling.

I think you need to try out some of the scripts your complaining about and see its not really all that easy to make kills with them the only easy kill I can think about is a new player on the grid but grids are part of the game and protecting it is also part of the game you don’t want your enemy to find you before you can find them. If a player is moving by hand I know I could warp in to a sector and pod them by hand just as good as any script could all the script does is automate the process. I have been in games where I have made live kills by hand this way what happened was the person cussed me out then they accused me of using some ubber kill script to make the kill when it was all done by hand then refused to believe I could do this by hand when it took them a whole minute to move past my fighter. Its not the ubber kill script the person is mad at its the fact that they got podded or #SD# by another player after all you just lost all that hard work in 2sec or if #SD# you will be out of the game for the rest of the day.

I guess what I’m trying to get to is do you just want to stop script use or is it you want to stop your players from killing each other in the game?

It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem. If we publically advertise our servers, all it takes is ONE scripter showing up to ruin the game for the rest of us, because we prefer to use settings like ship delays which BREAKS v3 because pdrop scripts become the be-all end-all of play.

Once v4 exists, we'll have the opportunity to play in games without fear of public advertising. If v4 will never exist specifically because we're not out in the open, it's a shame, but I understand. I'm not going to start posting in the bang forum here and just dooming the games we enjoy just to prove a point. I've seen enough games ruined as it is.

I agree about ship delay with v3. As to the not advertising, I guess that's fair enough. There are jerks out there who like to ruin it for others. I'm glad you're still able to find games that are like what you want :)

Personally I prefer the CN9 method, it works everytime and leaves you opponent scratching there head wondering what the heck just happened, until they read the logs and all the pieces come together... But until that point they are left in shear agony thinking their beloved script choked... so at least I get the last laugh, or do I? MMmmm... [xx(]

put ur self on even footing get the scripts, most are available on the web. Would send u to the Grimy Trader, but the site is havein problems. Then that will just leave a few of the better scripters out there than can out script u. And a direct p-drop nowadays is a joke. Never works unless its a noob. everyone else is using one of the many lawnmowers out there and they can beat it, except maybe if a ship delay is on. Think what u'd be looking for is a time limit game, where they can't be there 24/7. They have to do what they want and then can't hang around but for an hour or 2 after that.

Zarkahn-

I agree that is HELPFUL in achieving this goal. I have time limited the game based on the recommendation of others. I have also reduced ship delay (if an IG can chase a Scout we have significant gameplay issues). But I don't believe that's a perfect fix, nor am I even sure I'd want to time limit my game if I could affect change if other ways can more ably attack the problem.

Draconis-

The answer to #2 would be to limit the number of computer interrogation done via the Computer menu. After XX r commands in a short period of time the computer would fail. "You momentarily consider jettisioning your lead IS technician when he informs you the systems are down, but your first officer calms you, 'Must have been that last attack which overloaded the systems.'" Not exactly the best dialogue but you get the picture.
