I have created an edited game that includes new ANSI files for the ship and planet descriptions and am wanting to export those to the .twa file. When I go to export, I see there are global files that are not checked. My questions are, do the global files have to be checked to include the ship/planet ansi files, and if not, what is the purpose of the global files?

The short answer is 'no'. The global files are basically templates that are used to create the individual games. You should be saving your customized ANSI files in an ANSI subdirectory under the game that is using them instead of the global ANSI location, otherwise all of your games will use them.

k, I cannot see where I would add the path to the file using the editor. I have different names for the modified files so the other games will not use these for all games. The default files are still intact, just the new ones added.

You don't have to. It looks first in the game's ANSI directory, if it exists, for any display files and if it doesn't find the file you specify in the editor it defaults back to the global ANSI directory. If the files are in the global ANSI directory I imagine you'll have to include them specifically in the TWA export.

I had to create the ANSI directory for the game, and when I put the files in there, everything worked fine. I was able to export the TWA file with the planet and ship descriptions, rebang as stock and then was able to import it back in and the ANSI directory was recreated. Thank you for your replies. It worked.
