You have to take the server offline to do any editing. If you do not you might get corrupted game files. I was told this when I first started running a server. I hope this helps.

You can edit a game while the server is running. Just make it a closed game and don't let anyone into the game you are editing.

My suggestion is to get some basic setup info into several of the game slots on your TWGS, you can edit the games all you want as long as you make them inactive in the configure menu. You can do some basic setup with some basic info and bang several games or import games to several slots and that way you can edit them the way you want them any time and all you have to do is take the server down long enough to bang the games instead of for the entire editing process.

You can edit the game while the server is running and no, it doesn't corrupt game files. I've been doing this for 2 years now with zero problems.

Editing a game while it is running will not definately cause data corruption. However, it sometimes can. In general, the more active a game is when editing, the more likely you'll get corruption. Personally, I'd never take the chance, but to each his own. Once you get corruption, the only cure is often a rebang.

well my games aren't active like the main servers..At most I have 3-4 people playing and about 1,000 aliens.

One game I did corrupt but that was because I started doing crazy edits like sectors that only went back to themselves..The game was over so I was testing it to destruction..I had totally messed up the warp lanes which is why I suspect the corruption creeped in. Again, though, I was expecting this.

There are some things you CANNOT edit while a server is running. You can't create items that didn't exist before, like new ships or planets. You also can't take specific alien ship assignments and swap them around.
