I have a question. Is there any way to get the CIM information from a newly banged game without resorting to Zero-Turn-Mapping or manually exploring each sector of the universe. I would like to be able to map out the universe before I open it to other players in order to manually place special events in the game as they are to occur. I suppose I could just set the turns to unlimited, and write a script to visit all the sectors in order from 1 to 4,000 (galaxy size). Are there any easier ways? It seems like there should be.

I don't know of a simple way to do what you want. I think the best way would be to set it up as a closed game, with only yourself allowed in (to keep everyone else out till it is ready).

Then use zero turn mapping to map the universe, and go ahead & add your special items where you want them.

Afterward, you set the game back to open when your universe is ready for play.

I always wondered about the Observer flags for various things and could never find any documentation on what they were for or what they did. What other kind of things can be done with the Observer functions.

An observer sees everyone's locations when they press #, can twarp to any sector in the game, but can't land on planets or do any sort of gameplay stuff. They dont' show up in the attack list and don't trigger any sector entry events. You have to initialize a new player in tedit and set the observer flag there to make someone an observer. It can't be done once a player is already initialized in the game.

Didn't someone in one of the tournaments make Dr.Who an observer for a few seconds while trying to change his name before it was realized what happened? He was already initialized....but I don't remember the specifics just everyone bitching and moaning that he now knew where everyone was.

I don't recall the specifics, but I think it was someone just trying to get everyone going. He was never actually made an observer.
