2. any way of making a ship harder to capture

Cheers

1) No. If the ship does not have a pod, it cannot be captured.

2) If you're referring to making ships aliens occupy harder to capture, I'd suggest three things:

a) Create a separate set of alien ships with low fighters and high shields. Make both the max fighters and max shields an odd amount, and make the defensive combat odds some odd amount (e.g. not 1.0-1, 2.0-1, etc.).
b) Have the maximum fighters per attack equal to the maximum number of fighters available.
c) Make the aliens aggressive so that they attack with all their fighters.

What this does is make it harder for the ship-capture scripts to nail a ship in one shot. With the alien's fighters gone, the player will have to guess how many shields are left. The player can still eventually capture the ship, but it will take more turns to chase or confine the ship.

If you're referring to making your own ship harder to capture, use a number of shields 2 or 3 below the maximum number. This might throw off the ship-capture scripts.

Cheers Midnight, yes as the topic name stated it was for desingning alien ships, I had one of those revelations and decided to design a klingon race, and figured one of the disadvantages of thier ships would be having no escape pods, alas it clicked later that this would mean they could never be caped and ruined my plans, I did work around it for those out there that have similar ideas this is what I did:

Well lets say your in a ship with no eacape pod, your about to die so you put a bunch of stuff together and create one, the escape pod is called:
Cargo Hold
basicly a cargo hold floating in space, no fighters ho shields 20 turns per warp and 1 hold, I wanted to place an organic in there, unfortunatly I have found no way of doing this :)

will be fun seeing someone flaoting in space in a cargo hold ;D pity you cant add it to your ship if you find one ;)
